hey people
have been thinking about this for a while
whats the worst that i can do if i remove my air flow metre mesh?
I have been thinking for a while that it might be the reason behing the extremly loud sucking sound with a pod filter on?
By removing the mesh will it
A: take away some of the sound
B: make any more power
c: send faulty readings to my ecu

cheers
Adam
ps this is on a rb20det

ps this is on a rb20det

A: NO CHANGE
B: LOOSE POWER due to turbulaant airflow over the element
C: You betcha , after you have doen it throw it into the bin and buy a new one , better option if you are maxing out your airflow meter is to put a higher flowing unit on and recalibrate the ecu.

the sucking sound you are hearing is due to the pod , manufacurors design the airbox for noise compliance as well as effective filtration .

thanks for that
i think i will put the pod in the bumper when i get round to putting intercooler on the car.
thanks again

umm,
dont be weak, just remove the mesh

A. sound wont change
B. depends on your mod levels, may lean out the mixture slightly which will be a benefit if u have stock ecu (how in hell does removing mesh create turbulance? would be more turbulance with the mesh)
C. no, the mesh (or lack of it) wont bring up a fault

well the thing is atm mods are limited
k&n pod
12 psi boost
3 inch cat back
bosch 040 intank pump
and a/f ratios are running crazily rich ( in the 10s)

so if it does actually lean the ecu out a slight bit it may be benificial?

cheers

well removing the mesh will increase the airflow by a small percentage
resulting in slightly leaner mixture
i did it in my rb20 and no regrets

hako were you running standerd rb20 afm?
i know they are an 80 mm
i know they use them in gtr's some times instead of forking out for z32 afm's
thanks for your help hako
cheers

IMPUL R32-R maybe the 040 and factory ecu is why it's rich.I've read on SAU that some people run stupidly rich after a fuel pump change and thats with the stock fuel reg still!!!Even thou that makes no sence as the fuel reg SHOULD keep standard fuel pressure.

yea its still standerd reg to.
i plan on adding a tuned rom or maybe safc to iron out the fuel mixtures.
but atm cash flow is holding me back

What a Load of ....
1)no difference
2)most like gain (small amount)power due to less resistion to the intake of the turbos
3)the afm will work just fine
How do i know this, well to start with i have been an instrument tech for about 10 years and second i have run two different set of de-screen afms on my 530rwhp gtr for nearly 2 years, with perfect indication of air flow.

the cross sectional area of the screen take up about 30% of the area afm and tolerance generated would be quiet resistive. The only reason the afms have screen is to protect the elements from foreign objects(fingers, tools or air born objects if the filter was to fault or piping to come off etc).So if you fit good filters and handle with care there is no reason to keep the screens.

Just remember, when you start having to do things like removing "mesh" from your AFM, your just splitting hairs.

If you want to make real power, do it properly

2005 model motec whistler exhaust should do the trick :D
