F1 2010 half time thread

So 10 down, 9 to go.. pretty much half time.

With a week off, figured we could use this as a shit talk/opinion sharing week.

So - answers to these -

1. Canada - proved you dont want tyres that can do 10000 laps - it made for insane racing as cars chewed them up at a fast rate. Tons of action up and down the field.

2. Lewis - has been on it all season - couple mistakes, but no one has been trouble free. Simply brilliant at over taking given half a chance.

3. Tough call.. but im going to go Massa. The Ferrari is definitely a ton faster than he is showing it to be - and he hasnt had 3 years off or 41 years of age to contend with. Accident doesnt cut it, if he wasnt fit he wouldnt be in the car.

Plus Michael pulled that BRILLIANT move on Alonso at Monaco - shows the old boy still got something there.

4. Red Bull gives you wings, unless its Mark Webber. Sure the Turkey thing was worse, but this was proof positive that they dont really give two fucks about Mark.. and its angered him. An angry Mark is a fast Mark... but an imploding Red Bull is an unfocused Red Bull. Fireworks make for good reading though!

5. This is purely fanboi - Lewis.... IF McLaren can give him the car to do so. No reason Red Bull cant run away with it as it sits, but the melt down and an improved macca should swing it back his way.

[Brockas]

1. Canada, for all the reasons previously listed. Loved Monaco as well (mainly as a Webber fanboi) but watching the celebrations was almost better than watching the race.

2. Kubica. Has put that Renault in places it has no right being.

3. Two drivers in fact:
Vettel - I predicted him to win this championship by a large margin, but at this stage his immaturity and hot head will cost him it.
Schumacher - comprehensively beaten by Rosberg. Shows how good the Ferrari's were back in the day.

4. Schumacher's rampage in Canada. Never seen someone take out as many opponents in one race. Made for awesome viewing even if it was a little unethical.

5. Hamilton. As much as I want Webber to win, Mclaren keep scoring in the points, and I think it's going to be too tough to close the margin he pulls out whenever Mark / Seb have an incident.

6. We need refuelling back... ASAP. The races used to be so interesting as you didn't know what strategies were being used, but now it's pretty much follow the leader after turn 1.

1. Best race and why

Im going to have to go with Turkey. The race was fantastic for a few reasons for me. It was thrilling to watch Lewis take out fingerboy at the start and to stick onto webber throughout the race. No one could match those 2. Just when i though the race was about over, with another RBR 1-2, BAAAAM, Vettel into Webber. That shit made me jump out of my chair and scream of laughter and joy. I was glad webbo could get back 3rd and extend his lead over vettel. Another great moment was button overtaking lewis, only for lewis putting him back in his place and taking the position back!


I wasnt going to let him get away with it.

2. Driver of the season

You can claim fanboism all you want fellas, but the facts are there. The boy has been on it all season. Supreme overtaking skills, can hang onto those red bulls like no other driver, cool and calm and a whole new level of maturity. He is the biggest threat on track.

3. Let down driver of the season

Alonso. This has nothing to do with 2007 so lets not go there. I purely expected more from him. he has made alot of mistakes this season which he shouldnt of. I do expect him to get over it and bounce back, and i hope he does because he is normally a stand out driver and i want to see some good battles between him and lewis. Massa is not really a let down, cant be let down when your not expecting much. Koby was a let down, but he has picked him self up. Schumi is a semi let down. All hype, no action. hopefully he can get back into the swing of things again.

4. Incident of the season

Turkey. Webber and Vettel crash. This incident was the catalyst to what has happened to red bull. I dont see the relationship between webbo and vettel improving, no matter how much bullshit Red Bull try and say to cover it up.

5. Prediction for WDC

Hard to say, all will depend on McLarens updates. But i would be putting my money on Lewis :) followed by Seb, Mark, Jenson, Alonso.

I do hope vettel retires from every race. annoying german pingpingpingping.

6. Any more comments

I dont think the nature of this years racing is showing the true gap.

He hasnt beaten lewis since china if you dont include spain which was well and truly Lewis's win with a lap to go.

3. Alonso. Perhaps he would be doing better if he had both hands on the wheel instead of waving them in the air every time somebody makes it a little difficult for him to overtake.

5. Really hoping Webber, but my money's on Hamilton.

1. Canada was enjoyable to watch.
2. Tough choice but I will say Hamilton. Has almost been faultless.
3. Massa has been disappointing.
4. Has got to be the Webber and Vettel incident. Team mates colliding is never good and the incident did bring the spotlight on what was going on in the Red Bull camp.
I was at my boss' house watching and I litreally jumped out of my seat when they both collided. Everyone looked at me like wtf? /CSB
5. I'm hoping and think Webber can win it. If someone else was to win it then it would definetly be Hamilton.

1. Best race and why - Australia. Good track, lots of action especially after after bahrain, i thought they'd broken F1 with the changes in rules but australia was great and a huge relief as an F1 fan. 2nd Canada.

2. Driver of the season - Hamilton. Pre Silverstone i honestly would have said Kubica but Hamiltons qualifying effort in a slapped together car with hardly any setup was very impressive and tips him over the line. Kubica has been outstanding in a average car.

3. Let down driver of the season - Schumacher. Getting owned by nico wtf?

4. Incident of the season - Red Bull wing swapping @ Silverstone. Theres always a chance that teammates will crash into each other so that in itself wasn't to be unexpected and the team supporting vettel over it wasn't great but to go and take a wing off one driver and give it to the other was simply staggering when Redbull claim the driver are treaded equal. Tensions where high before but they pretty much took off after this, might very well lose them a WDC.

5. Prediction for WDC - at this point i'm not entirely sure. I said early that it could only be between Webber and Vettel, but who could honestly have predicted they'd fuck up so many times given how superiour the red bull car is. If Mclaren can't get the diffuser to work in germany then i can't see either driver winning, the car at present just doesn't have the pace. Alonso is too far behind and fucking up to often. Which goes back to webber/vettel...actually fuck it, i'm going to be a fanboi and say Mclaren will get the diffuser working and Lewis will get over the line just over Vettel.

6. Any other comments - I hate One HD coverage with a passion. Should i ever get the chance i'm going to belt fuck out of Craig Baird.

Bring on BBC coverage for pre/race/post.

1. Best race and why

Would have to be either turkey or silverstone for me, the driving of the mclarens at the end in turkey and the drama with the red bulls provided good entertainment, Silverstone just cause i enjoyed webber dominate vettel at the start and webber with a great drive and also his comments at the end, webbber just showed awesome pace which i loved. Seeing alonso rage and another good drive from hamilton.

2. Driver of the season

Hamilton or Kubica, hamilton has been really consistent and kubica has just been a great surprise packet.

3. Let down driver of the season
Schui, like others have been saying, been dominated by rosberg.

4. Incident of the season

def the collision of vettel and webber in turkey which has caused a stir in the favourtism row. Honourable mention to webbers massive crash.

5. Prediction for WDC
If red bull continue to have in house problems then hamilton closely followed by the two red bull drivers, however if red bull get their shit together then webber could steal it, cant see vettel doing it until his screws his head on and calms his ego down.

6. Any other comments

Bring back refuelling.

I would hold off on calling Vettel the best driver on the field. He has a fair bit to prove. Right now even Button is doing a better job. Getting pole positions in the fastest car on the field is no special accomplishment.

Monaco - Stupid amount of saftey cars, Great TV to watch, Before during and after

2. Driver of the season

Robert Kubica - Has put the Renault plces it shouldnt have been.

3. Let down driver of the season

Vetel - Not because of his ability, just his actions. It is a privellage to be in his position, he should act accordingly.

4. Incident of the season

Nothing of Standout for me racing wise. Webbers crash was spectacular, Some of the press have caused more intrest for me in the articles and interviews. it has been a fairly Political season to date :)

5. Prediction for WDC

Webber/Hamilton - I think its a coin toss between the two, the only two at the front with the talent and heads firmly planted on to focus on the ultimate prize.

6. Any other comments

I used to hate Hamilton, but hes growing on me, Mainly because i dropped his dad as manager, he has shown a level of maturity beyond beliefe and carrys himself well on and off the track, he has earnt my respect (and im sure a few others)

Vettel on the other edge of the sword has made me angry, it used to be his long interview answers that I couldn't stand, now his level of arrogance for an average result, the excuses he makes and his fucking finger all annoy me.

Bring on more races :)

Kubica is doing a good job, but its hard to compare how well he is driving compared to Petrov. Petrov has been average at best all season, even schumi would look descent if he was driving alongside him :p

Keen for Renault to drop Petrov and bring a real talent, then it would be interesting to see if the Renault is being taken to places it shouldnt go or not.

Dont get me wrong, Kubica is a solid performer, but he wasnt exactly a stand out next to Heidfeld.

1. British-the start had me on the edge of my seat, and of course RB didnt collide and Webber came out on top.

2. As Im half German, I should like Vettel but I dont.
But..... he is bloody quick and has the potential of being driver of the season.

4. Best incident on a positive was the Kamakazi Kobayashi in Europe running on the same tyres for almost the whole race the pitting and taking whats his name on the last corner.

5. Prediction is Ricciardo. Vettel will go home crying to his daddy after Webber takes out Germany with Hamilton 2nd then Ricciardo will step up and destroy the remaining races.

Reports are emerging that Renault are interested in Buemi for 2011.
