hey guys

this is my first post but i ran into a problem a couple of weeks after i bought my 5LTR statesman just wonduring if someone a bit more mechanically minded than me could give me some advice.

when i turn my key in the ignition and go to turn it on.. it dosent..

i turn it all the way as if to start the car but there is no turning over sound or anything. i know its not the batterie because the lights and the radio still turn on but i get no noise what so ever when i turn the key all the way.

i was thinking that maby its f-ed the starter motor
or maby its f-ed the imobalisor becuase the key i have dosnt have working buttons on it and i went out and bought a new batterie yesterday for it and put it in im thinking it might have re-set the imobalisor or something?

any help would be apreciated :)

thanks people! :D

Possible bad earth problem, grab a set of jumper cables earth one to the battery and one to the engine somewhere. Make sure it makes a good connection and if it fires up you have a bad earth somewhere.

Did this trick on my landcruiser worked well.

also bridge the terminals on the starter motor solinoid that also could be dickie you can just replace that part instead of the whole starter motor

the radio will still work and so will the dash lights even if the battery level is too low to start the car. try jump starting it or charging the battery.

might sound stupid, but also make sure the car is in park when you try to start it.

failing that, it could be an immobilizer problem or starter problem, so check your starter connections too.

Sounds like your epic fail VS ignition barrel has given itself the arse. Mine did the exact same thing in my VS GTS the other week. Theres a small pin up behind the ignition barrel that always snaps on the fuckers. Key will turn, accesories might work but no turn-over or ignition..... If this is the case $67 for a new barrel and you will need a new metal key bit in your.....err key...but won't need to re-code central locking or anything......hope that helps

stumps.

as mentioned dodgy key barrel seen it happen a few time and progressively get worse. You can fix it by running a push button to the starter motor spade bit and the other side to the battery if u can't afford the above. Other issues might be the neutral / park switch.
