Widebody FTL! Fibreglass sucks massive amounts of cock. Makes getting insurance a bitch, and for an S15 i beleive it will be deemed illegal. I went over the pits recently in my old Sil80 whcih had fibreglass frotn guards, and i was told i couldn't have them even though my car was a 1993.

k was just looking at a S15 with side damage and was thinking of buying it and putting a widebody on it to get over pits.

Fibreglass on the rear will be less of a hasle than the front with the pits. Insurance may be a problem though.

I was told the rules recently changed to allow fiberglass panels because they are not a part of the crumple zone... this may not be true tho...

if you cut or modify the standard guards then its illegal. im not sure about replacing them totally though.

it supposedly weakens them in the event of a collision.

and if you have an accident and are caught out to have fibreglass panels, then it will void your insurance, and any claims you try to make.

i asked one guy at dpi about doing rear guards, he said you can do anything you want to any body work behind the firewall because none of it has any adr standards, he went on to explain that front guards generally arent legal but can be

that same day i asked someone else the same question about guards n got a response along the lines of "NO! what the fuck! of course you cant you rapist"

long story short: there probably are some rules, but everyone at the dpi/pit inspector/insurance agency will have their own opinion

I had a yellow cleared off my car with widebody fiberglass fronts and flared and rolled rear guards... Not saying they are legal of course bu without going to the horses mouth you won't know for sure.

you can not replace any structural part/part of the crumple zone without having that part approved for use in that area.

99.9999999% of fibreglass panels are NOT tested/approved, thus aren't legal.

of course there will be scenario's where it hasn't been picked up for whatever reason, but they doesn't mean its "legal".

Guys,
You realy need to backup what your saying with the applicable regs, dont take what the pit monkeys say as gospel, from what I can see, the ADR's are all for Fiberglass love..

You want ADR CP105B , Major Modifications to light Vehicles

http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/mediaFiles/lic_cp-105b.pdf

Im going through this at the moment with my widebody 32,
The long and the short is, you can do rear over fenders, ie fiberglass over panel and you can replace your font guards compleatly with fiberglass ones as front guards are not considered structural( They are non intrusion pannels, bastards are only 2mm thick )

heres a screen shot of the ADR that im referencing, section 5

^yep.

when the sileighty body was built, rear guards were cut and fibreglass guards over the top, and the guard itself was filled in properly, basically looks factory. front guards also fireglass, and the car went over the pits and was registered like this.

I failed a vehicle examination in May because of Fibreglass fenders. Could of been cause the dude was a cock though.

I would recommend taking a copy of the ADR with you to the pit. Allot of the guys have no idea when It comes to the tech side and will fail you with some poxy reason thats not in the ADR's. Also as a side note, that adr seems to indicate that fiberglass bonnets are ok as long as they are 3.5mm thick..... hmm interesting

To summarise, according to the ADRS, as I understand,
Front Fiberglass fenders are fine
Rear Fiberglass over fenders are fine
Cutting the rear quarter out and replacing with fiberglass is prob a bad idea but you may get away with it, depends if the check thru the boot to see if its still there, but I wouldnt reccomend it.
