Ok,

Seeming as I managed to fuck this one up last time, any particular trick to this? I oiled up the outside of it but I'm fairly sure I left the inside dry, which I've taken a stab at the reason it's leaked (Caught on the crankshaft and spun, eventually moving and causing my leak)

So question is, do I grease the inside? Use silicon?

Any advice would be helpful.

Cheers

Marty, so should I remove the carrier as well?

Any need for silicon or gasket shit?

if you can, try and get a rear main seal tool. It's basically just a circular tool you use to push the seal into place evenly.

Just lube the inside of the seal with grease and tap it in a small amount at a time evenly, no need to remove the outer plate unless that is leaking as well.
If you remove that plate i think you need to take the sump off anyway.
Dont use any gasket sealer unless you are taking off the plate and just make sure everything is clean before it goes on.
Also make sure the crank isnt grooved.

bit of clean oil on the seal and housing for lube and this^^... I turn them up on the lathe out of nylon which wont damage the seal which allows you to tap the seal in gently and evenly. You could use wood and nice smooth ally..

i normally loctite the outside of seal and just a bit of rubber grease on inside of seal and just work in on slowly.

just put some engine oil around the crankshaft and the inside of the seal, dont put any oil on the outside of the seal otherwise you can risk it spinning inside the rear main housing or worse - popping out. Just push it in evenly with your thumbs or give it a light tap round with the backside of a large socket (something flat)

you can also use the old one as a spacer and tap that so you dont damage the new one
