Hey guys. Girlfriends car needs a clutch

so got option of 2 clutches

Kfd27004hd. Organic heavy duty clutch. Between 1100kg and 1300kg of clamping pressure. Easy driveability

or

Kfd27004dcbhd cushioned ceramic clutch. Bit harder driveability and 1300kg+ clamp force

comes to the question
what sort of power will it hold?
The cars just got a tune so about 245kw at the wheels
what would be better. She wants it to be faster but I told het not for some time
so what do you rekon it will hold?

Talk to Mal wood mate. Sells a really good clutch upgrade.

IMHO stay away from ceramic unless you absolutely need it. Organic is so much better for drivability.

I have both clutches in my XR6T 5 speed. Lets just say it didnt like the ceramic.

T5 or T56 gearbox?
As AK has said, if T5 stay away from the ceramics as they tend to put more strain on the gearbox. I went through a few T5s with a ceramic clutch in my time.
Organic should be fine at 245kw but if you plan to push much more power then a T56 conversion should be on the shopping list.

IT'S the mk2 so it has the t56 6 speed. Both the clutches are costing us just over $400. Thank god for the dads price lol
just wondering which one to go for
she prob won't go over 400 hp but just need it to last

avoid xtreme clutches man. have heard of too many welding together in the falcons.

if its a t56 2nd hand ap racing twin plates can be found for $1500 ish, or as akf6 said, mal wood option 3's seem to be highly recommended.

25-06-2010, 06:48 PM
serious?
i mean its not gonna go into any track days or anything
maybe drags once of twice?
she doesnt really drive it too hard either
dont see how it would weld up unless it gets driven really hard...

ill see if he can get exedy
otherwise might have to risk xtreme

Why don't people like Xtreme clutches?
I've driven in a few cars (including one of my own) that have had them and they seem nice to drive with while still offering good grab.

I seriously recommend you give Mal Wood a ring before you buy anything man. I think he would reccomend you a clutch that is perfect for your application.
Cheers

Xtreme = bad
clutch industries = bad

AP racing (stock F6) twin plate = win. no chatter between plates

Malwood (opt 3) = win
i have the Opt3 Plus in my FG, tad more beefed up with 35% clamp... so the standard Opt 3 should be light.
handles a lot of rapage by me :)

how much are they though
if i can get it through coventrys i get supplier cost
straight from clutch supplier that is
and she cant really afford to go spend $1000 on a clutch

Look at it this way.

Spend a little extra, do it once do it right.

Cheap out on the xtreme, replace 3 of them before you realise I should of listened to the guys on antilag. more than $1000 spent.

supra_jza70
26-06-2010, 07:19 AM
Yer what's the exedy price?

Well those clutches are $800 trade price so I don't see how it's going cheap

Do the 6 speeds run concentric slave ? if so 400 is fukn cheap for heavy duty clutch n slave kit :eek3:

I've seen 2 Xtreme's explode in 2 different cars and rip holes through the motor, firewall, etc.

supra_jza70
26-06-2010, 12:41 PM
Yer they do. As I said. This is cost price to xtreme themselves so that's why it's cheap

ok fair enough you have seen 2. But my question is how many have xtreme sold that have been completely succesful

I'll get price on the exedy one and will post and see
will also talk to another guy I know that has alot if experience with them

I've got a Xtreme HD button in mine, not too bad to drive, going on 3 years old and handled drift days, Powercruise, Motorvation plus street driving

supra_jza70
26-06-2010, 04:33 PM
yer how do you rekon it would go with a 19 year old girl? lol
daily driveable?

dattoman
26-06-2010, 04:43 PM
Yes they are a concentric slave type

And the Exedy is well over $1k for the heavy duty cushioned button unit
Even a heavy duty organic is
$1k will buy you a stock exedy clutch ... then you have to fit it

And make sure you machine the flywheel... no machine... no warranty

Mate it looks like you just want to buy the extreme no matter what anyone else says so just do it.

My cerametalic was an extreme and i ended up welding itself to my flywheel. Never had a problem with Mal woods.

Go to a Ford forum and ask the question.

wouldn't piss on a malwood clutch. Unless the car is stock.

Ring NPC on the goldcoast and get 1 of theirs.

Iv got the T56 6 speed... On my second clutch upgrade!

Had the textralia twin plate... Shite for a daily!
Yes can be abused with big power, but heavy as fuk, noisy and generally a pig.

Now onto an AP twin plate (Standard in F6)... Love it to bits. Has a nice feel, is not heavy and no noise what so ever.

The Mal Woods Option 3 and Option 3 + are very well liked in the XR6T community and many have reported that they are very happy with them... Should handle the power you have + more with ease.

I wished that I didnt spend 2k on the Text in the firstplace, but I was told they were similar to the AP and there were no second hand AP's about.

I personally would not purchase anything other than the AP twin or the Mal Woods Opt 3+.

Above info is spot on. I've got the AP Twin plate (Stock F6) clutch in my car and it drives like factory, yet is able to hold 430HP at the rears. The best bit is if you decide that you want more power you can just upgrade the discs in it and whola, holds more power. Though in saying that it should be able to hold up to around 450HP as it is.

Where can you get those ones from. The ap twin plates?
And around how much they?

Coventries, Ford or maybe second hand from a wreckers (FTG Auto salvage are good). Fairly pricey unless you've got contacts.
I picked mine up for $1500 second hand (7000 km's).

Picked it up from your mate at the Porche dealer in Perth.
Still serving me well thank you, though I have been through 3 sets of disks :p haha.
