There's always people angry at Ian Romano. I have seen him hit cars on the weighbridge let alone all the near misses and hits on the track!
It is beyond me that he still holds a circuit license! Isn't there a driving standards observer?

yeh who was actually deemed at fault there? I can't really tell?
seems the torana veered in to close the gap on the s1 rx (so possibly in the wrong?) but then the s4 rx was being cheeky trying to go 3 wide through the corner, so wasnt he kinda the master of his own demise? I have only drifted at barbs so not really sure of race edicate rules.

i see it as the torrie being at fault , as closing your line mid corner is about as gay as it gets, i think even gayer than aids , especially on a reverse grid race when you know faster cars are approaching in the first lap :slap:

This is a bit of a stupid question and I am pretty sure what the answer is going to be but I dont really know..
If someone slams up your ass, do you have to pay for the damage to your car? The guy in that blue rex was copping a bit of a tailgate and seeing its such a nice car you would be pretty pissed if someone got a bit close to you. Spose thats just the risk you take

he got taken out later in the race by a VN.
drivers side caved in, but was able to continue

+1
its like playing lottery with him on the track, an the prize is a NEW CAR
(that you have to pay for, and build)

Torana guy in theory was in the wrong in my eyes
However... the Maz wasn't alongside past the B pillar... not sure where the S4 was... but I'd say he wasn't past the B on the S1 either... but there was room for a sneak past if the S1 hadn't have been bumped by the Torana
Racing incident
If you know theres a dangerous guy out there... you don't try to pass in Kolb anyway... right ?

wow. ahha did not expect that at all..
imo the torana was in the right, he was well in front before & after the turn in point.
if anyone was in the wrong i rekon it was the series 4 rx7.
Video from just behind the incident on board the Hyperdrive 180SX.

If the speeds of the cars are all roughly equal then what dattoman and 405atw is saying is correct, HOWEVER, this was race 2, a reverse grid race where the first lap is always very busy, generally everyone knows the faster guys are coming through and everyone knows whose pace they match; you'd look to defend from them and the guys that are quite obviously faster, let them through.
For comparison, laptimes of the three cars involved based on qualifying:
Ian Romano (Green Torana): 73.069sec
Peter Screen (Series 1 RX7): 64.286sec
Cade Bell (Series 4 RX7): 62.060sec
Whether up to the b pillar or not, the speed difference is too big! You can not actively and safely defend your position with that kind of speed difference!
In the video from Andrew's 180SX, it shows Cade (series 4) going for a narrow gap. Personally, if it were me I'd have waited til past the Torana; I'd only go through that gap if I could trust the other two I was going up the inside of, I could trust Pete (series 1) to hold his line but Ian, not so much!
Definitely Toranas fault.
Ian Romano (Green Torana): 73.069sec
Peter Screen (Series 1 RX7): 64.286sec
Cade Bell (Series 4 RX7): 62.060sec
yes franz & when its a faster car overtaking a slower (much slower in this case..) one, its up to the faster car to make the pass clean & safe.
cheers
How much competitive motorsport have you done?
i dont really know Franz, but I've heard he has done just an odd skidpan day here and there.
ive done a few timed sprint days & hired a FF.
so stuff all really ;)

looking at the vid from the 180, it all would have been apples but the torana moved over into the front of the s1 which pushed the s1 into the back wheel of the s4, that cannoned the s4 into the torrie and it was game over for all and sundry.
If the torrie had have checked his mirror before moving over like you probably should on a reverse grid race in a much slower car it wouldn't have happened (and i have no idea why you'd be moving left to right at that bit of the track anyway)
anyone know how the torrie finished up after that? s4 looks expensive

You can't check your mirrors at that angle while in the middle of the corner... think about it.. a glance in the mirror would have had you looking into the paddock to his left
He knew there were faster cars coming
But couldn't actually see them or even hear them
So yes I blame the Torry driver... but the faster more experienced guys should have known better than to try to pass at that point going 3 wide especially on the first lap
Would have been alot smarter to wait say... 15 seconds and eat him up on the straight knowing they were 10 seconds a lap faster and had higher top speeds

Race is won on the first lap :P

so you're having a bet each way?
yes torry driver probably should have stayed wide, but the marbles out there maybe contributed to his poor line/correction.
either way he was within his rights to take whatever line he wanted as he was in front.
cheers
he was not infront
the video from behind shows the torana and the series 1 side by side, the tail lights are level when they touch.
When you side by side on a corner that opens up to the left on exit and your in a slow car, why the hell would he move right?
torana man needs a kick in the teeth.
err yes he was, look at the first video from the s1
have you watched the second video?
yes i did last night (vids are blocked here)
the 180 was a fair way back, the s1 vid shows torrie position in relation to the s1 far better.

agree with the general concensus, torana guy must be pretty in-experienced

It looked to be a pretty gutsy/dumb move from the s4 to try and squeeze up the inside on the kerb considering the cars infront were side by side and closing in on the apex, the smarter thing knowing you have 2 sec a lap up your sleeve would be to sit just behind the s1 to the right so when the corner opened up an easy pass could be made coming down the hill to the last corner.
3 wide first lap is just asking for trouble on tyres that aren't up to temp.
Was pretty rough for the torrie driver to squeeze the s1 but that's racing.

loads of room for s4, they're not even close.
However torana hit s1 which hits s4. There was loads of room for everyone until the torana turned in

What you dont see in that pic is that the s4 has 2 wheels in the dirt
at 56:30- 57 you can see him get loose as the right tyres come back over the kerb.

its not that clear from that shot but torrie was in front - did you study the first video? - its very clear in that.
