Hey guys just wondering if anyone has any info on this?
I have an unpaid trial with a bar but they want 2 x 3 hour trial shifts.
now i have done a trial before but they just chucked those hours on my first pay.
so completely unpaid, is that even allowed? any info would be awesome. Cheers in advance

my mate who is a chef does it reguarly when job hunting.

He does 10-12 hours sometimes. I think its expected in the hospitality industry.

I always trial new employees for 3 days non paid... I have learnt to do this after some bad decisions in the past. While they are on trial, I will always buy them lunch and if they do a good job, 9/10 times they'll end up with some cash in hand and a job.

For speciality type jobs, I think it is fine... But for jobs like checkout assistant, shelf restockers and the like, it is frowned upon.

When I was 16 I went for a job with King Kong in Forest Chase as a floor worker... basically the job was unpacking stock and putting it out for sale.

I did 2 days free work and didn't hear back from them. When I went back on the 3rd day to see if I had a job, they just said they'll let me know as they were trialling more people...

Turns out when ever they got a new container of crap from china, they would advertise this job and get free labour for a week or two.

They eventually got fined a substantial amount when DOCEP (or whatever it was called back then) found out.

Funny thing is my wife's dad was one of the directors of King Kong back then...

It is illegal, however still pretty normal, I did 2 days before getting my apprenticeship, got paid for it afterwards though.
