Hey Guys

When i bought my car I was told it was not registered with the new engine and gearbox. It is still a 1990 e30 320i Auto to the DPI, but it now has a 325i engine and manual gearbox in it.

How would I go about getting this registered with the 325i engine and gearbox?

Thanks for any advice

AFAIK....
Call DPI, ask if you can fill in a form. (change of engine form)
They may say come in for inspection...
Make a booking, take car down have it inspected.
Once inspection is completed with new motor complete engine number change forms at licensing centre (doubtful they care about transmission).
Drive away.

- cant imagine their being to much trouble as its from the same series  (sorry, don't have much BMW knowledge)

I changed my last e30 from a 2.0 auto to a worked 2.7 manual with more than double the power of the 2.0. Because it's still a standard engine for the e30 all you need to do is supply the different engine number and tell them that it's now a 2.5 and a manual.

All just paper work. Easy as

no... if you upgrade the engine to another one from the same series, you need all the extra upgrades that came with that engine, ie. brakes, suspension, etc.

if it's modified further, i'm sure they will ask for an inspection/emmisions test... i'm guessing you just told them it was a "stock" 2.7L

changing CA18DE to a SR20DET i had to upgrade the breaks fuel pump and everything that would be found on a stock SR20DET silvia then had to fill out the engineering papers.

All the 6cyls (320 to 325) share the same suspension/brakes... only CCs change :)

I would just do a change of engine form and increase capacity. It's same motor, just different rods and pistons :)

So i would just get a change of engine form and fill that out and send it off?

hopefully its this easy :]

Just downloaded the form and there is`nt a section for saying its converted to a manual from an auto. Properly have to tell them that when i take this engine change into DPI?

Yeah like cplagz said, it's all same same. I told them what work had been done to it and they didn't really seem to care.

I don't think changing gearboxes is an issue. They just note that down on the rego forms.

Was that before Immisions Testing was initially introduced?
Would explain their lack of car about engine mods.

Im in the process of getting the e30 registered with the 2.5L engine, as it is still registered with the 2.0L it had.

I just need to fill out a change of engine number form on the DPI website and send it off, only problem is I cant find the engine number for the 2.5L engine, I found the 2.0L engine number on the rego slip.

Its there a panel or somewhere on the 2.5L engine that would have the engine number on it??

Any help/advice will be great/

Cheers

what sort of engine is it? rb25?

*copied of sau for an rb25*

turbo side of the block on a pad towards the rear near where the gearbox mounts on.
