Last week, I got stickered for my front 2 windows having tint which is too dark under the legal limit and that was the only thing it got stickered for but obviously the vehicle examiners will check the whole car.

As far as I know, all mods are legal once I strip the tint and atmo BOV. However, is it illegal to be running an electronic boost controller? It's mounted in the usual spot under the steering column near the Traction control switch.

Don't really have the time or money to make the extra trip to the pits so just want to get it all clear the first time around.

what kind is it? I had an AVC-R on my 15 before mounted in the centre console and all i did was turn it onto the speed display and told the guy it was a speed monitor that would warn me if i was speeding lol

mates have passed with profec-bs etc in full view but if it is easy to move i'd just cable tie it under the dash, or if its in a pocket put something over the pocket

most would think its a turbo timer but you'd just need one clued up inspector to ruin your day

they could possibly order you to do an emissions test?

Well no, I wouldn't it imagine it to be "rocket surgery" seeing as how no such thing exists. Try rocket science bud ;)

Yeah dude still running stock cat. Exhaust is quiet as so I won't have a hassle with that. Ride height is just above legal limit so that's all clear. It got complied and licenced in September and no drastic changes have been made so should be ok. I'm just gonna hide the boost controller up behind the dash just to play it safe.

turbo timer is illegallllll
Ahh shit, my turbo timer is built into the alarm system...this is going to be a problem yeah? Oh and it's a Profec-B Spec II

turbo timers are not illegal, leaving your car running is.

Have you tried unplugging the TT modual?

Turbo timer shouldn't be an issue at all. If they something about it, i will eat TJ's hat.

Been to the pits 5 times, all with turbo timers, never said anything.

I'll take your word for it. If they say something about it or fail the car for it, I will be demanding pics of you devouring TJ's hat.

maybe i had a bastard pit inspector but he picked me on the apexi pen turbo timer i had, if its built into the alarm, no worries as long as its turned off

and rocket surgery is easy... it's brain science that i can't get my head around

Surely you could engineer around the turbo timer? (turn it off)
I have a wank-o flippy DVD screen in my SS, every time I go to the pits I just close it and turn off the head unit. Legally they aren't supposed to open or play unless the handbrake is on or something silly..
Same with my Wolf 3D handset in my S13, unplug or stuff under passenger seat.

All very technical stuff!

you had a wolf?

i wish i knew this earlier, i would NOT have accepted your friend request on facebook.

Ride height is just above legal limit so that's all clear.

Just heads up, from personal experience even if your car is about 130mm from the lowest point they can still ask you to raise car.

Their logic was that when car is 'loaded' with passengers/cargo it will drop below legal height.

yeah, i would turn the EBC off and hide it (don't unplug it).

turbo timer, turn it off then hide it.

i used velcro and stuck it underneath the opening compartment under my steering wheel.

if its off and they can't see it, they don't know about it yeah? hopefully they don't see the solenoid in your engine bay :P

the greddy solenoid is a tiny black box and has a couple of tubes coming out of it - mounted correctly it looks like a stock part.

Chris138

Yeah the Greddy solenoid I have looks almost as if it's a factory part so should be no worries there. Measured the ride height last night...front lip of the car sits about 145-150mm above the ground. However the intercooler pipe that runs below the intercooler is probably the lowest point of the car, this sits roughly 120mm above the ground.

Just trying to figure out how to disable the turbo timer, with the Autowatch systems you just press one of the buttons on the remote twice and the turbo timer will disable. But it's not like the inspector is going to know that.

turbo timers are legal as long as they're correctly hooked up to the handbrake AFAIK

no, it's illegal to leave your car running without you being in it.

bingo!
i hid my Greddy MSS when it went over just in case I got a "please explain".
The more stock a car looks the better.

exactly... what's the point in going will it/won't it pass with this, when you can rip it out/hide it and not have to worry about it??

It's not as simple as that with the Autowatch system.

Going over the car tomorrow arvo to try and suss out a way to disable the turbo timer in the alarm system. Anyone familiar with these or know an easy way to disable it without driver's command? (Pressing the button twice before turning car off)

Fukushima

i'll see if i can find you the autowatch ignition codes to disable the turbo timer

got it in my manual somewhere, should be the same for all models

or you can pull out the relay but depending on how they wired it that might stop your car working.

PM me your mobile number, I live around the corner from you

I recently went over with my Safc2, boost controller and turbo timer(i turned it off, just in case it arose suspicion).

I put my my tacho in the glove box as it has a shift light. But other than that nothing was said about the other things, which were in full view and stood out from VL dashboard.

I went to warwick, a couple of good friends have passed there lately with minimal fuss...

good luck!

I'm not as close as I thought so here are the instructions for my alarm:

I would try entering 5,5 and see if it turns it off, if it doesn't enter 5,5 again and it will fix whatever you did.

Thanks heaps for you help guys, really appreciate! Especially loki for going through that effort. I think our Autowatch systems are different but the test drive was out the exit and back through the entrance so when he turned off the car the turbo timer hadn't initiated yet.

Stripped tint, took off atmo bov, hid EBC under steering column. Examiner said ride height was perfect, after inspecting the car he even commented on how neat and tidy the car was for it's age. Took it for a drive and he commented on how well it handles in comparison to the other skylines that have been coming through.

Sticker off, all clear!
