It's been a while. Reason being is that Japanese beef is going through some disease at the moment, so WA has been exporting bulk loads over there to meet demand. Not much left lately for domestic sales as a result.

Anyway, got some spare pieces here. They will go today so if you want some, place your order ASAP!!

Here's what's available:

Wagyu Striploin (porterhouse) MBS 5 $50

Wagyu Cube Roll (scotch fillet) MBS 3/4 $40

Wagyu Tenderloin (fillet) MBS 5 $60

Wagyu Tenderloin (fillet) MBS 7 $80

Wagyu Striploin (porterhouse) MBS 3/4 $40

Wagyu Cube Roll (scotch fillet) MBS 6 $60

Again, there aren't too many pieces, so they will all go today, don't delay. Cheers!

generally how many kgs are in a striploin?!?

pretty keen if still available

Ryan1080
09-06-2010, 09:25 AM
I posted about it previously. Generally they're about 3.5 kilos, but can vary by up to a kilo this way or that way. I won't know until I pick them up. I then SMS people the exact price once I know the exact weight, before I deliver.

SimonR32
09-06-2010, 09:29 AM
Cheers mate, I couldn't find the post with the approx weights :)

Been keen to give this a go for ages so put me down for the Wagyu Striploin (porterhouse) MBS 5 $50.

If it's on the smaller side that is fine, it will take me ages to get through that much steak by myself haha

HAd a $60 steak at a nice restaurant the other day.. had 2 bites spat the second out and ddint eat anymore.

If it aint Wagyu take it back.. You really have ruined beef for me.

But when I do eat it!! Like tonight it is a joyous fucking occasion! holy shit was it good! seemed really really juicy this time 2 !

Ryan1080
10-06-2010, 11:54 PM
I know the feeling haha. Hence my warnings to newbies! Like myself, if they don't serve wagyu, you'll be trying other things on a restaurant's menu

Brockas

I've had 4 different cuts now. I'd rank them as follows:

1. Porterhouse mbs 5
2. Porterhouse mbs 3/4
3. Rump mbs 3/4
4. Rump mbs 5

Not sure if it's consistent, but the last rump I got was supposed to be a higher grade, but there were portions of it that were quite tough and not like most of the Waygu I've had...

Every other piece I've had, has been fkn amazing. $150 got me 15 steaks all about 300g each, and every one of them (porterhouse) is better than what you'd get in a restaurant for $60 each.

Warning: If you like steak, you will get fat and poor if you try this stuff haha it really is that good.

KyeBidz
11-06-2010, 12:15 AM
^^ WHS

Rump is still shit tons better than any coles/woolies steak you get, but compared to Porterhouse no where near as good.
Saying that though, i diced up 2kg of rump i had left over and chucked it in the slow cooker with veges and made a stew. Shit was amazing.

Tomohawk's were amazing too, still got 1 of those left hanging out to have it.

Ryan1080
11-06-2010, 01:02 AM
Yeah I agree. Rump is the lowest of the cuts. I tend to basically use it for things like:
1. roasts
2. curries
3. stews
4. stir fries
5. steaks, only if I got a party or something and have to feed heaps of people

It's more suited to non-steak dishes I reckon. Once you cook it, it gets really tender and just melts in your mouth. Having said that, other cuts will still do a better job, but this is good enough!

I don't really have a preference, porterhouse is good for everything, plus it is perfect shape for steak sandwiches. Scotch fillet is awesome, I think I get it the most. Tenderloin is probably the most tender of the cuts, more delicate, I save it for special occasions, it's a bit more expensive. Awkward shape though.

Tomahawk, haha. Almost burnt down my own bbq with it, I knew I shouldn't have laughed at others who did the same. Had it wrapped up in aluminium foil, and in the bbq with the lid closed. Came 40 mins later to turn it over, and the melted fat spilt out right onto the flame. Haha, yeah... should think more carefully next time. It's tasted good, it's basically like a scotch fillet with a bone. It presents itself quite nice, good novelty value for sure, makes quite an impression!

As far as MBS goes, I usually grab 5 to 6. You can tell the difference between each grade, but value for money wise I stay with mid range. 7s and 8/9s, they're awesome and noticeably better than the lower grades, but get quite pricey. I've found some people find the top grades a bit "too rich" in terms of the marbling. Personal preference I guess, that doesn't bother me, comes down to the $$ at the end of the day. I am still happy with the 3/4.
