Ive been trying to sell my car lately and have had a shiiiteload of emails about it from people who work offshore as a marine engineer etc. So ive started leading a few of them on.....

Ive sort of hit a brickwall though, they all want my paypal details. is there anyway they could hack me/scam me if i just give them my details?

I had the same thing happen to me while I was selling my car about 6 months ago. Didn't want to deal in person at all, sounded a little weird to me so I told them where to go.

it will be safe to give them ur details but they only want them for the next part of the scam. The next thing you will hear is that the money is deposited but will take a few days to come thru and in the meantime can you pay the shipping company for the transport of the car to them.

I work in IT for a shipping company and spend a lot of my time shutting down the websites that they use

What were you expecting? Explosions and a cake?

well yeah.....with strippers too....

yeah ive seen how they scam people with stuff like laptops etc, they pay the money into paypal or whatever then you send the item, then before the money clears they cancel it saying you never sent the item, then recieve your gear and use said money to supply the taliban/paedophiles

anyway this was the email...

Thanks for the swift response...I am willing to know the asking price of the turbo as I want to get it for my Dad as a Birthday present on the 6th of June so I will like to know the present condition ,as I will not be able to come for the Inspection or any Test Drive. But due to the nature of my job and location...i will not be able to come for inspection,am a very busy type as i work long hours everyday,i have gone through your advertisement and i am satisfied with it.

As for the payment..i will be paying you via the fastest and secure way to pay online(PayPal).

I have a private courier agent that will come for the pick up after the payment have been made ...so no shipping included.

You can now send me your PayPal email so i can pay in right away and also include your address in your reply. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can easily set up one...log on to www.paypal.com.au and sign up. its very easy.I await your reply asap

What he said.

So many people are getting scammed like this. It's usually for $3000 or so.

sounds like you should be on ACA or TT when they run these scammer stories and have ppl crying all over the place, if it sounds dodgey then it must be.

if you cant tell that the reply was a copy and paste of various websites with shit filled in then no help at all.

just play along and mirror what they say if need inspiration take a leaf out of brockas' thread... Lowball 101 (http://www.antilag.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31903)

I had one of these email me when I was smoking crack and felt like selling my car.

Anyways, I tried my hardest to get him to transfer a 500 dollar deposit, to no avail.

He asked for my Paypal and offered to pay the entire asking amount plus shipping costs. He then sent me an email with the words "I promise I have sent the money, it will take a few day to clear. In the meantime, please do Western Union transfer to this person for shipping cost".

Basically, he was trying to scam a few grand out of me.

I ended up printing, filling in and sending a fake Westen Union form to him with some fake details just for shits and giggles.

He wrote back saying "I think this is scam". How fucking ironic.

Basically, fuck with their heads and ask for a deposit to be transferred to your paypal so you can "take it off the market".

Can't hurt to try, can it?

A mate of mine was selling his R1, a guy in China said he wanted to transfer the asking price plus the shipping cost to send it over there.
My mate gave his paypal details, at this point i told him it was a scam to he sold the bike to another guy the next day. Then he gets a notification from paypal saying there was $14000 in his account, so he transfered it back to the guy. Turns out the guy in China was legit

its got to be a scam!
paypal doesn't use ".au" at the end of their site address.
the website will automatically determine your origin, and add on the "/au" at the end.
i've always just typed .com
and its always directed me to the CORRECT place.

At least she didn't get scammed over $9000.

I've had this used on me countless times.

Always excuses like "Yeah its for my dads birthday", what kind of fucking dad wants a turbo car?

I got this response from the ad for my Hiace Van
"Jason,

Thanks for the prompt response.

I will be very grateful if you can send me a direct link to the ad again as I lost it after my computer restarted.

Besides I will like to know more about its condition and possibly have more pictures of it I will be very glad to have more pictures of it. Do as well advise on the least amount you will like to sell it. I will be very glad to conclude this as soon as possible.

Due to the nature of my work, I will not be able to travel out of the United kingdom to come for the inspection. I will however be needing your full contact address so that I can forward it to my shipping agent here in the United Kingdom who will be coming over there for the inspection and shipping.

Thanks again and hope to hear from you soon."

Now, the original number than was sms'ed to my mobile from the ad response is +44 7549 867355. It's UK area prefix. I told him to get his agent to call me. No response so far.
