Hey guys got an Iphone for work and just having some problems on the handsfree, I have the phone right next to me (its mounted on the window halfway up so its not far from my mouth) and people are having problems hearing me.

My Boss also got a 3Gs except his is hooked via bluetooth to a builtin handsfree kit in his Territory and everyone is having trouble hearing him aswell.

Its not just quiet they also seem to cut out every now and then but only on handsfree.

Is this a common Iphone fault or is there a program or something out that will make better use of the inbuilt Mic?

I have given up on the loud speaker function on my 3GS. I always used it on the iPhone 3G and never had any problems.
On the 3GS, i'm getting the same problems as you - people can't hear me and it cuts out, even when sitting at home in a quiet room.

I did some research and apparently this is a common fault of the Iphone 3Gs. The Mic and speaker are right next to each other so its something to do with the firmware counteracting the speaker so people dont hear themselves talking to you.

This is a really big letdown for a work phone :/ Hopefully apple might do something about it in an update soon?

next iphone is supposed to have another mic at the top purely for noise canceling so that might solve it but the speakerphone setting is shite on mine too, speaker isn't loud enough and the mic isn't sensitive enough.

It's a shame that they mess around with this sort of stuff - the iPhone 2G and 3G had the speakers/mics in the same positions w/o any issues. It shouldn't affect your boss's bluetooth kit though...

Another annoying thing is that older wired handsfree kits don't work with the 3GS as the connection is slightly different (the Mic and talk/hang up buttons don't work)

Common issue with iphone and bluetooth kits too - I had the same issue. Fucken POS iphones.

I thought that'd be the case too, only Apple really fk'd up the iphone BT system - incompatibilities with numerous factory kits, not to mention aftermarket kits!

Its always the end-consumer that loses :(

Since updating my 3GS to the 4.0 software, I am happy to say that the speakerphone quality has improved vastly.
I use it all the time now - it even works when callers on both ends of the line are on speakerphone which is a great result.
