Well a year ago I'd finally realised my dream of finishing uni and turboing my trusty university years 323...
http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/875/imgp18796353913.jpg
http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/6974/n61544950417116061664.jpg
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/1782/28112008001sy9.jpg
http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/613/28112008004jw6.jpg
With a little help from Owain and Josh the resident laser/323 nuts I had quite the sleeper. BPT 1.8L tx3 motor, blacked out FMIC, 3" decat mandrel bend exhaust, 14psi went niiiice
But after 6 months or so (and a nice wet winter) I realised that having maybe 200hp front wheel horsepower in a 23 year old car designed for 90 or so was a fatality or two waiting to happen.
So the criteria for a new beast?
1. Driver and passenger airbags
2. Not a wrx or skyline
3. Roomy enough for someone 6"2' and 100kg
4. RWD or AWD (I'd driven FWD for 10 years by this stage)
5. As fast as the 323 (which was caning VE SSs at the time)
So then I almost bought a GTI Polo, fucking comfortable, had the safety features, but then absolutely underwhelming on power. No worries I thought, I'll just fit the APR catalogue and have a fast, sleeper 250hp FWD. Yeah nah, same as the 323 really.
So I drove a few cars,
Hopped in a series 8 rx7 and decided it was too small
Jez's 400hp s15 with the clutch that made any driver look like a retard
A 350hp 32R, nice, but a skyline
An evo 7, tidy, but too similar in feel to the 323
Various standard/fmic only s15s, TOOOOO SLOW
Seriously standard s15s are terrible!
Anyway the next one I drove had lots of nice japanese bolt ons, a half done body kit, and a big wog sticker from tech9 across the front.
But I had to have it, cosmetics aside, the set up just felt right. And a couple of weeks later I did... My God it looked woeful the first night in my garage:
http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/7664/0021798545.jpg
Anyway by that weekend we'd done the front bar with pressure packs, and I'd sold the 323 (stupid stupid decision, I should have kept it for the lols, but there was no turning back.
http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/456/0061960060.jpg
I had planned to colour code the bonnet, vertex sides and rear that came with the car but a few weeks of driving it was enough to convince me that you cant daily drive with fiberglass.
http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/763/12301012442258732.jpg
* Not my car, merely what the body kit was supposed to look like, I sold it instead.
So the decision was made to fit stock front bar and sideskirts. In the meantime I had the bonnet painted:

http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/6154/0042792501.jpg
Then I picked up some buddy club p1s
http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/5484/buddy0053240564.jpg
Then some fucking bitch scratched my car... some of you may have read the thread. You'll be happy to know that enough people sought revenge that I never really had to do anything... turns out the husbands of nurses are bigger pingpingpingpings than I am! In the meantime I switched the buddy clubs for some baller tempe spec 19s.
http://img709.imageshack.us/img709/6571/002nrq.jpg
Fixed the scratch, picked up a stock front bar and side skirts and went to motorvation:
http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/2410/0163393736.jpg
Got sick of having 19s and grabbed some 350z rims... and the rest of the story starts now...

Detailed power and mods to come
But basically
Tomie Poncams and rocker arm stoppers
HKS 2835
Nismo 740cc injectors and fuel pump
SARD FPR
Z32 AFM
Greddy FMIC
Profec B
Got me 289rwhp @ hyperdrive
Since then I've replaced the China '90 degree press bends' dump pipe with with the xforce stanless split dump, and modified the cat after it dislodged and blocked the exhaust causing misfire and shit.
Future plans:
Aesthetically I think the car looks perfect, but I have a JDM rear bar to fit after someone rear ends me at antilag 23.
Stock / Recirc BOV
Drift Pinapples
Oval twin tip varex
34 GTST Brakes or similar (the next time I see some)
Whiteline Swaybars
Dropping second
Take it to a hub dyno to crack 300hp for extra penis stiffness

What was it about the msports bar that gave you the shits?
The sound of splintering fiberglass every time I drove into a driveway, speed bump, or accidentally too far forward in a carpark.
With the stock front bar I could lower it more in the front and still not hit anything.
The car is daily driven, so it just makes sense to have a plastic kit

+1, minus the fog along whatever road that was. I actually found that map in the back of the TX3 the other day when I was cleaning it out haha, should run it again some time.
Glad you're still steering clear from the wank factor as you did when you had the 323, makes for a very nice S15. :idb:

Been hanging around at xspeed too much, car now has drift pinapples (sub frame restricter bushings), and when I pick it up this afternoon it'll have a black rocker cover and stock s15 BOV.
I could have fitted these items quite easily but just in case there were headaches with the rocker arm stoppers clearing the cover or boost leaks I decided to leave it to them.
Drift pineapples are pure win, those of you at the skidpan day ross organised would have seen me spin out a few times, the subframe bushings have taken a lot of movement out of the rear and given me back some predictability.
Cant wait for another skidpan day.

Despite being relatively new they misfire above 0.8 bar, oem coilpacks don't. Was thinking about gapping the plugs and trying again once I have the stock bov on but they are more than likely stuffed.
So at the moment stock > splitfire, I'm not willing to spend $650 on another set. One of the guys on Perth S15 is going with an external coil setup so I'm waiting to see how that goes.
If you've seen any other spark setups on an sr20 let me know.

they drew up a roster of people to sit outside her house in vans and trucks reading the paper and eating sandwiches and just watching her, apparently she got quite stirred up.
there were some midnight raids on her garden that I heard about 3rd hand
and nusience stuff like beeping horns whenever they went past (at all hours)
after hearing about all that I decided to leave it be, but she scratched 20 or so cars so there were a lot of angry family members

Well there was plenty of burnouts at the midvale day... so now I have pauly style tread at the rear and need to go tyre shopping.
They were 225/45/18 (350z size), but they can fit 245/40/18 if I want to go staggered.
Fronts currently have 225/45/18 potenzas on the front, probably 10% left in them, but definately considering a drop to 225/40/18 once they are done to stop the scrubbing on full lock.
I want decent tyres, but also plan on doing some skids at powercruise. Decisions, decisions.

We set the ride height that morning, went pretty well - didn't notice much scrubbing. Also managed to destroy my diff so the car is booked in next week for a replacement, some new diff bushes, fix the exhaust leak, fit stock BOV and return pipe on the intake.
Considering ordering some nismo mounts from frsports, wondering if a nismo gearbox mount will make shifting into 2nd easier? Hanson says they are the same as stock mounts...
Car currently chicken wings like hell, some guy in a new wrx wanted a run this morning and after spinning one wheel then the other and not getting anywhere I gave up and had to give him ricer excuse number 45 - "blew my diff on the weekend"

The mod was inspired by the splitfire direct bridge - it seems to idle a bit better, but more importantly it was made free using offcuts.
Have also finally dynamatted behind the steering wheel airbag (getting rid of THE most annoying rattle you could ever imagine)

how does it make the idle better?

Shits and giggles. It isn't a proven mod and i'm not sure if it'll make ten fifths of fuck all difference but given the problems i've had with coilpacks in the past if it makes a slight difference it'll be worth the time and money. 30 mins and 0 dollars.

and does it idle smoother now?

29-09-2010, 10:52 PM
yeah mate, they're going to have a look at the idle tune tomorrow
for some reason it was set to 22 degrees timing and injectors were maxed at idle - gogo fuel economy....

I've had a bad experience with splitfires, but perhaps now I have the earthing done I'll grab a fresh set, and get the tuner to put in new plugs and go for it.
Perhaps another option is Josh from Perth S15 running LSx coils with leads after his reliability issues with splitfires, will be interesting to see how that goes.

Sooooooo I lowballed a reputable importer for a standard s15 diff, had it fitted up on Thursday, went to collect the car and they tell me that it is a mechanical diff, very tight, and at least a 1.5way
http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/633/0028363576.jpg
Spot of good luck for sure :D
Got to play with it today at powercruise, fantastic fun and it paints nice black lines. My thinking is that it is a two way, because it clunks on deceleration and cornering - but I'm definately not an expert in the area.
It is very aggressive and doesn't quite fit with the "sleeper / daily" build I'm trying to do but god damn it is fun, so I'll see if I can get used to it. Also getting used to not having the obnoxious supersonic BOV sound, stock BOV and flutter ftw.

Perhaps another option is Josh from Perth S15 running LSx coils with leads after his reliability issues with splitfires, will be interesting to see how that goes.
I'm pretty sure I had VR4 coils or something on my S15 JDM SR20 with leads. Make sure you get a decent lead that will really stick onto the plug, had constant issues with axle tramp rattling the #1 lead off the plug. Once I had a custom set made up it was hassle free. Unfortunately I'm not 100% on the coils used as they were installed prior to me buying the car. Worst comes to worst LSx coils are great if you can get 1 bank worth of them.

Well where I am with the car right now...
Had a bunch of exhaust leaks fixed by machining flanges and replacing the front pipe with a gktech flexi pipe, then discovered the turbo was missing a stud, then finally after all of the rest was fixed discovered the quality TOMIE manifold was cracked.
It has been repaired for now but I'm starting to think about replacing it before it lets go.
So I have a dilemma -
I believe the turbo is a 3071 with a T2 rear housing = 2835
So if I purchased a low mount T3 manifold I could replace the rear housing with a T3 and end up with a proper 3071, and move over to external gate but hopefully keep the braided oil lines intake and exhaust as they are to save a bit of cash.
Or I could hold off for a bit and sell the 2835 to someone running the stock manifold and go for a new GTX high mount set up- which I was planning to do once I'd finished paying off the loan next year.
Ideas?
And in the meantime I'm getting a nismo rad cap and oil cap and I'll try and do the engine mounts. Also getting Bart to look at the brakes in the new year.
SimonR32
14-12-2010, 12:53 PM
It goes pretty hard and is nice and responsive... Just keep it as it is, if you have a loan just pay that off!
/end sensible mode
GTX3071R 0.63 on 6boost with tial 44mm gate
TOMEI is what you have
TOMIE = china
imo the manifold cracked because you didn't have a flexi pipe on your front pipe before.
if you replace your engine mounts, more chance the manifold will crack. get a steam pipe one. not sure if you're going to have much space with that low mounted and ext gate. you will probably have to chop up the dump pipe and mod to suit.
save up and go high mount, sell the turbo/manifold together or even seperately.
180SXTCY
14-12-2010, 02:13 PM
Shannon id be looking into a steam pipe 6boost in either high or low mount what ever you prefer.
as for the turbo, decide what u want the car for. if its track keep it responsive and do what u said change to a t3 housing or go upto a gt3071 .63 or even the 3076 .63 in the GTX range.

Yep it's for street/short track/skid pan duties but I do like to daily the car so it gets about 450km a week - not sure how long the manifold will hold out heating and cooling twice a day.
Can one of the turbo gurus like simon or yourself point out which housing i'd be looking at? It's all fucking greek to me
http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=tp&Category_Code=GTH
How much messing about is it? Is it as simple as unbolt the compressor and bolt up to the new housing or are new seals and what not required?
SimonR32
15-12-2010, 01:29 PM
I don't think you will just be able to buy a new rear housing for your turbo as the HKS 2835 have backcut GT30 turbine wheels and thus need different clearances...

dude dynos are a measuring tool.
If you didnt change anything and did two runs on two different days then id expect to see a difference in power based on many factors such as air temp, moisture in the air, operator etc etc...

I haven't updated this for a while but I think I will as like writing a diary it helps with planning... and gives me an incentive to get into the garage and do some work.
Anyway since the last time I posted the car has copped:
- cusco swaybars front and rear
- cusco brake cylinder stopper
- NISMO fuel pump swapped out for a higher capacity Bosch 023 in tank
Fuel pump was swapped to try and fix a ping issue, after 60-90 minutes of hard driving I was seeing huge knock counts and having to limp home with audible ping.
Unfortunately I also decided to do a lot more work myself this year which has meant the car has been off the road a lot more as I noobed it up.
But anyway it's all running a bit sweeter now, ping issue is a lot better but I'll get a touch up tune and have it checked on the dyno just to be sure.
I've also comitted to a track night in 3 weeks so there is a lot to do in the next three weeks:
- gearbox and engine oil
- brake fluid
- fix an exhaust leak
- touch up tune
- front traction arm bushings
- wheel alignment, the car definately needs more camber in the front... when I dumped it it turned in so much better but scrub scrub has forced me to raise it again
Anyway if I can get all that done I'll see what issues the track throws up and go from there...

Well I survived the track without too many dramas - and set my first PB of 63.64 on my first time out so I'm very keen to get out there again and try and knock a second or two off :)
http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/3778/008qdz.jpg
My gearbox behaved quite nicely with a 500mL overfill, thanks to kuek for teaching me the jack one side up trick
I popped some OEM camber arms with whiteline bushings into the car with the hope of getting some more adjustability in the rear...
http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/7706/021ere.jpg
Bu when I got the whel alignment done the suspension had been set up with -2 in the front and -3 in the rear, we were aiming for a bit less in the rear but it seems the left hand side is a bit askew so I may need to invest in some proper arms later down the track. Until then I'll chew out tires but on the plus side my understeering problems are history.
I didn't manage to get the car tuned before the track night despite investing in new coilpacks, changing the plugs and previously changing the fuel pump... So every now and then I get a knock reading above 60 but thankfully no check engine lights recently.
http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/4900/020tya.jpg
(Don't get too excited by the speed that is after a session on the track)
But the biggest problem I had was the brakes - They are stock rotors with QFM HPX and I just didn't feel confident with them. I know I could go a better pad and see gains but on my 323 I had bigger diameter slotted rotors installed and I want that on this car now. So I'll be keeping an eye out for an upgrade along the lines of the 33 GTST or 34 GTT for the front and at some stage need to get around to doing the rear skyline hub conversion.
Anyways, end cool story I'm off to do some vacuuming...

Looks good Shannon :)
Based on the lap counter, I think I set my quickest lap with you chasing me (or me chasing you) at TA.
Next lap I retired early under the pressure - I was pushing! :)
I believe the R34 brakes use a different sized bolt(14mm?) to the 33s(12mm, same as s15).
However that may just relate to the r34 brembos.
But r33 gear should just bolt up without the need to re-tap.

look at the SWB or UAS spacer kits.
324mm GTR rotor + dogbones with stock calipers, should be sub $800 (maybe less from Bart?)

yep just sort of hoping something comes up with slotted rotors for cheap cheap, not overly fussed if its 33 or 34
and one of these days i'll have a free weekend to go down south and get the rears done
but for now a fluid flush on Sunday and the current set up is biting again :)

a mate of mine is looking at upgrading his fronts and rears to brembos.
He has 34 gts-t fronts with 324mm slotted and drilled rotors with custom braket to mount them. He said they pull up hard but there is a bit of the rotor that doesn't get used so looks a bit funny. Also drops the caliper to a bit below the horizontal line (if that makes sense).
Let me know if your interested and i can see how much he wants and when etc..

as long as all the pad is being used it's all good, you wont be able to grab the entire disc without a huge caliper.
R34 GT-T and GT-R brakes use 14mm bolts as mentioned, only requires the hub to be drilled out a tad, or use R33 gear which is 12mm.

Ok it's no huge secret that I've lost a cylinder
Basically was driving home from work, not giving it shit at all and check engine light came on.
I decided to baby it home and a bit further up the road smoke started to come out of the bonnet vents.
Got a compression test done a few days later 170 170 165 95
She'd just clicked over 143 000km, but now that I think about it some mild symptoms were there when I bought the car. Clouds of smoke when I booted it, hesitation on the dyno, strange idle.
So now the build thread finally gets interesting :) Stay tuned.

Haha, good to see I had the right idea though. I never thought I'd forge an SR but the price of low K long motors seems to have jumped recently. I did flirt with the idea of an RB25 conversion but it was a bit much to take on.
Driving the car to Josh's workshop this Friday (yes I've put another 1000km on the motor since the incident, she runs pretty well for a 3 cylinder turbo diesel)
Also fitting some goodies that I've both collected over time and recently ordered... here is the first box of stuff... I'll take photos as the rest arrives.

Yeah nothing wrong with the rims but I came to realise that heavy 19" wheels dont belong on a silvia
They'd be good on a falcon or maybe even a silvia with a big bodykit, but I came to prefer the stock bodykit. When I say muppetry i'm referring to the money I wasted on fiberglass bodykits and wheels that I eventually decided I didn't like.

both are steam pipe
both are custom made
both are decent quality
both have lifetime warranty
the thing that swung me was customer service
I've dealt with kyle before and it involves waiting for emails, smsing bank details and booking in 5 weeks ahead
I ended up cancelling my order and putting the stock manifold on
Powertune answered my enquiry the same day, provided a credit card payment form for me to fax to them and started making the manifold on Friday when the flanges I posted them arrived. They called me today to tell me my manifold was complete and being sent off for ceramic coating.
When something is custom made there can always be human error but a lifetime warranty doesn't mean shit if you are going to have to wait 5 weeks to get something fixed.
just my opinion and I voted with my wallet

how did a manifold cause a turbo to fail?
Jahn had nothing but problems with his powerfail manifold.
chunks of heat coating went through turbo.
The inside of the collector isn't welded on some 6 month manifolds. They're just tapered cut, buttered up and welded on the outside.
So when they get hot, say like big skids, the inside of the collector opens up a bit, that small bit of opening flakes off the ceramic coating.
and the lifetime warrantee doesn't count for shit, cos as 6 boost said "the manifold has got to hot, thats your problem"
there's about 1/2 dozen falcon manfolds that have done it.

how the hell do you get up inside a collector to weld the 4th join? Ie i could understand leave one pipe off and you can weld the 3 seams possible, but how do you then fit the remaining tapered pipe and weld the 4th and 5th.......

Also, thread needs more 2.2L stroker. I know you just had the motor done and all, but it'll break soon, sooooo do a 2.2.
it's more that on the collector internal edges are cut on such an angle that the edges are very thin and a long way from the external welds.
will try and find photo.
it does seem sort of limited to falcons perhaps because falcon 6's run quite retarded even from factory, that the manifolds run hotter then most it leads to problems.

powertune vs 6boost
ios vs android
sor vs nor
etc etc etc
Anyway I've decided to make things less interesting by putting the stock bonnet on and smashing black wrinkle coat and satin black all over everything in the engine bay.
Engine is pretty much being built to the Galvsport drive in drive out specs, new everything - 86.5mm cp pistons, eagle rods, arp bearings and fasteners, all new nissan gaskets/seals/pumps.
Retaining Poncams and GT2835R for response but will hope to push the boost a bit with the stronger internals.
Other things to go in: Seagulled Sfidz's Autronic SMC with S14 loom and splitfires, Koyo Rad, AU thermos, Apexi exhaust valve, Tein EDFC for my monoflex coilovers, r33 twin pot rear brakes, low kilometer 6 speed box from a mate and a new coppermix clutch on its way from Japan as mine was shagged.
Wish list has an extended sump and some gauges on it but those things can always be done later.
Hoping having all that together and tuned for Powercruise isn't too ambitious.

When I picked up the car Josh challenged me to write a Sam style essay. In the meantime Battlefield 3 was released so I've been working on it peicemeal. Needless to say I have a newfound respect for how much time Sam puts in to his build thread!
So the last time I posted I revealed the plan, but this is how it was set in motion.
So it was a dreary Thursday night in September when I organised a mate to come and swap bonnets. I'd had enough of the fibreglass wonder and had been warned several times for having bonnet pins. I was also sick of seeing smoke piss out of the right hand bonnet vent each time I accelerated.
http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/1941/img0809f.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/254/img0809f.jpg/)
The next day I drove the car to work and quite happily had no smoke pissing out the bonnet vent, as there was no bonnet vent. That evening I dropped the car off to Josh who was complaining about all the oil in Owains daily tx3 which was in for a head gasket.
So lols were had when I got this message:
http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/5386/img0813t.png (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/443/img0813t.png/)

http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/9494/003epv.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/263/003epv.jpg/)
Anyway Josh pulled the motor that day and took it home with the plan being to pull down and inspect parts to see what we needed to purchase. I went up the Sunday arvo and over beers did some frsport shopping. Josh hadn't pulled the motor down but the pricing was insanely cheap so we took a punt and grabbed
CP pistons, 86.5mm (20 thou oversize)
Eagle rods
Nissan oem gasket kit, oil pump, water pump
Nissan oem timing chain kit
ARP studs and bearings throughout
Worked out about $2200 USD, which was hovering at about AU$1.08 at the time. We placed two orders to stay under the customs GST limit... which ended up absolutely pointless as FRsport put quite a low value on the shipping invoice.
We also pulled the clutch cover off and to noones suprise the nismo super coppermix was on it's last legs (it had done an estimated 50-60 000km...). The flywheel and pressure plate looked to be in decent nick so I ordered a replacement plate from RHDJapan for $350. Will just have to see how it goes, but a replacement kit was $1200.
At some stage around this time I ditched my original idea of converting the GT2835 to external gate by using an ATP turbo housing or welding straight to the housing and hit up powertune for a low mount t2 manifold with provision for a 44mm external gate.
http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/81/img0534nw.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/641/img0534nw.jpg/)
Was a silly idea anyway, I'm much happier with the proper manifold...

I selected the Jewish USPS shipping option from FRsport so the motor parts took 3 weeks to arrive. In the meantime Josh arranged to tow my car back home to keep it safe while he built the motor. (No need for Sam's bad luck here). This gave me an opportunity to clean up my oil slick, relocate my boost controller, and change to the custom autronic loom I had seagulled out of Sfidz. Due to the wonderful engineers at Nissan this involved removing the front wheel arches and quite a few choice words. (The left fender indicator is part of the engine loom, go figure). Also thanks to Andy for the late night help removing the stock loom.

The power fc, z32 and S15 coilpacks were sold off and replaced by the Autronic SMC and S14 splitfire coilpacks. Hopefully these will cause me less headaches than the S15 ones (I've been through a set of splitfires and two sets of nissan OEM).
My rusty tray got some rust conversion, my HID ballasts got relocated to under the headlights, and then with some Friday night help from Crash and Fetish I removed the rear brakes to attempt the r33 rear conversion. Sunday morning help from Chris got the new engine loom in place and we were ready to go.
Sfidz aka Subframe Express provided a lot of help collecting a 60k km gearbox from Spearwood, collecting my subframe from mayhem, taking it to Josh who didn't want a bar of it, collecting it from Josh, taking it back to Josh... etc etc. To this day it sits in his van, minus the brakes. He also dropped exhaust and other parts off while I was in Melbourne and decided to polish my exhaust. Presumably his other mates were too busy for coffee that night.
So gradually my overnight parts from Japan (close at 2 days), Sydney (2 weeks), and USA (3 weeks) arrived.

And when pistons finally arrived Josh could send them off with the block to get machined.

The head was cleaned up and new seals (from Nissan kit) etc done.

So all was going pretty well. The Galvsport 323 had copped neons (from an old computer) and a stereo but Josh steadfastly refused to let me take it to the Antilag skidpan day. Good thing to because I ended up needing it a further three weeks.
The first bit of drama was fitting the first set of pistons but Josh was very good about it and ordered replacement 87mm (40 000 oversize) pistons. It cost us another week as we had to wait for the new ones to arrive and the block to be machined again. Anyway eventually it was sorted and I had a brand spankers new motor:
http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/7631/img1001e.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/507/img1001e.jpg/)
The next bit of drama was getting the timing sorted. We'd removed the Autronic CAS from sfidz's motor without marking it. Poor Josh spent many hours cranking the motor and bashing the CAS before the peice of shit started.
Shit customer v2

Another bit of fun was the self locking doors which locked themselves and the keys inside while I was in Melbourne. Josh had to remove the stereo from the boot and send the apprentice through the car to open it.
The rest of that weekend was taken up by asking for thermofans to be installed with my koyo radiator and shit customer v3 insisting Josh fit my rear r33 brakes. He got all that done on a Saturday and the next day I got these messages...
<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gzLNOTdfNsw?version=3&feature=player_detailpage"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gzLNOTdfNsw?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>
She runs! But wtf is that exhaust...
http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/844/img1037jr.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/684/img1037jr.jpg/)
The boys had grabbed a 3" pipe and installed it instead of my rear muffler...
So then I was back in Perth, back to work, and back in the 323. The car was running but timing was still a bit munted and the wastegate was not opening. A few nights and a few 2 bar smashes later and we worked out the problems but not before flipping a rocker arm off during an ill fated test drive.
First drive after a long time: to the servo... With straight pipes... was hilarious, people were pulling their kids out of the way as I idled past

Finally on the Tuesday I was ready to pick the bastard up. 3 weeks had turned into 6 (mainly due to my decisions to change almost everything about the set up). But we were determined to have it ready for my Birthday Skid Pan day.
We couldn't get in for a dyno tune before the skid pan so Josh modified the previous sr20 tune on the Autronic to run a bit more fuel and a bit less timing. It was checked by running around on the street with a sniffer up its coight and Josh gave me the all clear to run it in and take it to the skidpan for my birthday.

Josh doing some fine tuning:
<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/utbtQXMafZw?version=3&feature=player_detailpage"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/utbtQXMafZw?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>
Josh giving me the all clear to give it a bit:
<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/KyTwmmfRw_Q?version=3&feature=player_detailpage"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/KyTwmmfRw_Q?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>
As for it's performance... fuck me it's brilliant. Despite retaining the GT2835 the new compression, manifold and wastegate setup has transformed the car. It reaches wastegate spring pressure (1.2bar) at 3900rpm in the low gears and seems to get there a bit quicker in higher gears. Previously it got to 1.2bar at around 4500rpm. With the new brakes, new clutch, new gearbox meant it drives completely different to before.
The morning of the skid pan I'd done 950km without so much as a clutch kick so I was itching to go...
<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/LNu-UWkM0vQ?version=3&feature=player_embedded"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/LNu-UWkM0vQ?version=3&feature=player_embedded" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>
She didn't miss a beat :)
and there we are. I've some last little things to sort out. A less gay air filter would be nice, I've got a Greddy catch can to fit, I need to get the ECU to start making decisions about the thermofans (currently running one fan on high full time by earthing the stock relay), and Josh needs to relocate the a/c filter dryer because it's goddamn hot and I need airconditioning.
And then of course I need to get it to a tuner and see what we can do with a proper tune and more boost. Destination 1.5bar?

Epic essay is epic, son I am so proud haha.
Things I like about this update: It is large and informative, whilst remaining "fun" to read. You have effectively given the entire forum Pressers mobile number and Facebook address (Please someone troll him). Your car is now bombed.
Things I dislike about this update: Not enough 323 racecar. The trolling picture you posted gave me a heart attack when I woke up, fucking well played at going into the effort of jacking up the rear to enhance the realism.

nice! pretty high torque figure too, good ol SR! how much boost btw?
I missed your big write up! Sounds like you have really given the SR a bit of a wakeup!
366 hp in a car that size must be alot of fun.

Good stuff, very decent figures for the SR.
Should paint a decent line or two now and turn in some good times once you track it.

I can vouch this pulls like a freight train.
Was given the task of picking this up from allstar yesterday as Shannon is on holidays AGAIN.
With the right practice this will really move around barbs and get some great times.
