The Godfather of Heavy Metal, an absolute legend and icon died this morning after losing his battle with stomach cancer.

Yesterday there was a false report, but his wife has confirmed it today.

This guy was Metal Royalty, and an inspiration to 3 generations of headbangers so far. He always gave the time of day to any fans who wanted to say "thanks", and he'd always say it back.

The documentary Metal: A Headbanger's Journey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Headbanger%27s_Journey) is *highly* recommended to anyone with even a slight interest in the genre. Dio figures highly in the interviews, and gave a lot of information, first-hand-stories, and the low-down skinny beef dirt on how stuff happens.
