Also any ideas on what they charge for the service?

Looking at getting some gear from nike.com

Yeah there's so much money been made selling shit to us stupid australians...

I'm in Texas right now, heading up to new york soon then LA...

So far Texas is so fucking cheap... DC shirts for $20.00, K-swiss shoes $180 in perth... $35 here.

My mate here just bought snowboard worth $999 here he got for $410. I just saw my TV that cost $2000 in Walmart for $950.00!

I think i hate where i live

Anyone had any experience with freighting their own stuff over via sea freight etc? Just got a quick quote from Ocean Freight USA and it's fairly cheap compared to air freight if I can get the items to an ocean carrier's facility (port office).

I looked into those options above but they all want to buy the items for me and then charge me tax for them etc - too much dicking around. Tax alone is around $400 on the items I want to buy, would rather dodge that to be honest.

Otherwise I might try to air freight it myself just to speed up the process, as long as I don't need to create an account with any freight companies this might be an option but I've had prices from $400-$1100 so it's a bit daunting.

Keep it under $1000 to avoid paying import taxes

The purchace under $1000 dollars?
What's the deal with import taxes? Once it arrives here you have to pay the tax, do customs or whatever send you a letter saying you owe this much money for these items before they will get through us?
How's the tax calculated is it a percent of the purchace?

couple of years ago when i purchased a fast inlet manifold and throttle body when it got to customs they called me and said i needed to pay import duty before they would release it.

gave them CC details and that was it.

im not sure well atleast dont quote me on it, but if the product is made in the usa etc then it should be free from import duties or some such shit. something to do with the free trade agreement we have with them.

i ended up paying just over $1000 for freight, more than what i baught the brake kit for.

but weight was fucking huge, so i can understand why.

How much was the weight? I'm importing ~46kg and I've got prices as little as $200 for sea freight. You obviously air freighted yours?

there really shouldn't be any import duties on getting things from the states to australia as we have a free trade agreement with the states

Did you end up going through with this?

Looking to send an engine via sea freight through Ocean freight usa

Shipping charge is only $260 but i am worried about the charges once it gets here.

Customs cost
Quarantine cost (steam cleaning if required)

Anyone in the game that can help out?

thanks

Sure didn't.. Did I say what it was for to save me going back a whole page? Probably wheels.. I got my wheels pretty cheap all up anyway, and from a different supplier, so it worked out okay for me.

I have also imported a motor before but that was air freight.

You should not have to have your motor fumigated when it gets here, avoid a wooden crate as that's the main reason they'll do it. I chanced it but was offered a rubber type concealed box instead which would not require fumigation and these are what Customs recommend I think?

Customs inspection might cost you some coin, they looked through my box (tehehe) and that's about $80/hr from memory.

I got hit with GST but avoided another 10% for import duty or whatever as I told them that the parts I were importing were not available locally or would only be used off road or some rubbish.. They force fed me what I needed to relate back to them and I did. That was through schenker freight - maybe see if they do sea freight too?

Worst case scenario if they fumigate and inspect the parcel/crate it should still cost considerably less than air freight. But take quite a bit longer (obviously).

HopShopGo is an option for places that don't ship outside US.

Mate just bought some NorthFace gear from US website via them, all good.
