Simply awesome pics - a very deep insight into a city's dirty dark side.

We often hear ghetto and think of your boy bangs or 50 cent. This is much realer.

was in new york earlier this year and they have cleaned up the city 100 fold over the pics in that link.

think 9/11 brought the city together as a community and they started to actually give a damn about each other

Funnily 1995 is just about when the city got real tough on crime - zero tolerance policies

There is a couple of threads about how much improved harlem is these days that illl link too.

They are turning ghetto places like Harlem into million dollar apartment's because rich people want to move closer to the city...

Problem is its kicking all the poor and middle class people out of their homes and flats because they can no longer afford it because now Harlem is a rich area.

Looks nice but.

A real thread about a very real situation

In our lives we will never witness such acts or live in such a hostile place

I thank my lucky stars that we live in Australia

Wow, those photos are amazing.
"Ghetto" doesn't even begin to describe it.
Such a stark contrast to the glamorous NY we're used to seeing.

Agreed with the above.

I always wanted to visit the states, in-particular NY. it'd be a massive culture shock compared to living in Aus!

photos are pretty old now, dont say too much compared to it now.

was there last year, went and explored a fair bit of the 5 boroughs, still alot of crime n gangs of course, but the amount they have clamped down andi mproved things since these times is huge, the government has spent alot of money over the last decade cleaning the street up, spending money on law enforcement etc. NYC's crime rate has dropped alot since

when i was there in july there was soo many cops everywhere, every corner, driving or walking the streets they were everywhere, 9/11/terrorism etc is probably another reason its been stepped up, on wall st and other hotspots you have a heap of armoured cops, look more like swat members with big automatic rifles on them patrolling around. Majority of new york is quite clean, did see some aread in queens/brooklyn that did look abit shabby but nothing like these pics. but like i said i didnt quite see every where nor not really wanna look for this stuff

wow, just fucking wow. Read the comments and shit the photographer has added to some of the photos. That shit really makes you stop and think. So grateful to be living in this country, even if we do have a shithouse corrupt political system.

I think this is fitting to the subject.
It's up there amongst my favourite tracks.
The photos in the 1st link certainly give a great sense of realism to it.
