just out of curiousity, how often do barbs track days like this come around? if its not very often i might try and make the date i think.

were do you get CAMS L2S Licence from and how much is it?
Do you need both of the licences for the day?
Anddd, what is the difference between CAMS L2S Licence, CAMS L1S Licence?

Cheers :)

You can get a CAMS L2S License from CAMS or some CAMS Affiliated clubs. But you must be a member of a CAMS Affiliated club either way. AFARCC is CAMS Affiliated so that's fairly easy to get sorted. 12month license, I think is $88

The L2S is a standard Level 2 Speed 12month License. The L1S is a single event Speed license. You can only use one L1S per 12months (If I recall correctly). It's just there for people to get a taste of motorsport.

Whats a L1 worth and can it be upgraded (ie pay the difference) to a L2 after it is used if keen to do more?

poombah
05-05-2010, 05:18 AM
L1 is a single use licence (~$30) - L2S is $100 and lasts for 12 months and covers any CAMS or AASA event.

Timing?

No Timing - as this increases the permit cost SIGNIFICANTLY as it is then classed as a competition event.

That said there is nothing stopping you from having a device in your vehicle to monitor your own progress. (Performance Box, Drift Box, Mobile phone with GPS timing app).

Any car yeah? or just 4's and rotarys?

All Makes and Models are welcome. Our Track days have always been a mixture of the Japland specials - GTR's Evo's WRX's Supra's etc and local variety XR6 / XR8/ SS / HSV / FPV .. whatever you like.

The day is pretty laid back and you get HEAPS of track time, BBQ lunch included and you get to have a yarn with like minded enthusiasts.

had a bit of oversteering exiting ford.. then what looked like some good old lift off over steering followed by tank slappo.

main thing is he luckily walked away... cars are repairable/replaceable... people arent.

I liked the vid tinto
Not sure what sort of car you have.... but you do seem to coast alot rather than come in hard on the brakes

I find lifting off the throttle early and not braking hard enough gives me too much time to second guess myself
I worry I'm not in the right spot on the track to be setup for fast exit on the corner
Once I learned to brake alot later I actually had less time to think and make less mistakes
Good vid though.... I should have come up to watch but that just sets the bug nibbling and makes me want to drive... lol

That sounds about right - I was overly conscious of baking my car (S15 200SX) and am still coming to grips with the FWD -> RWD switch, so wanted to coast a bit in some places, even on the warmup laps. Once that is sorted (my water temps were hitting 120) I'll be a bit more aggressive on the pedals.

Thanks for the feedback - I've got plenty of room to improve :)
My GPS clocked a 1.09.55 on the long track, with most full laps around 1.10/1.12. It seems quite accurate as in the afternoon we switched to short track and my times were similar to No Limits nights.

I stuck the same camera on the side of my helmet to get another perspective.
You can see the EVO looming at about 1:50 (look in the rear mirrors), then he rips past over the top of the hill - those things can move.
I've got 4x4 trained thumbs that won't tuck under the wheel.. It is a very hard habit to break!

Yep, GoPro HD Hero (motorsports pack).
Looks amazing on the TV, not so much on Youtube :)

Did I see you in South Perth (BP) on Friday Night @ the air pump?
Red Civic Type R? Was going to say hello, but I think you were wrapping up as I was coming back to my car.

Your car sounds (and goes) amazing on the track - what RPM are you hitting?

ahh, yea I was at BP South Perth, I think I remember, was it the S15?
wow, the difference between normal goPro and HD is night and day!
I have the older GoPro, will be posting some vids later. Car revs to 8600 :werd: but hardly ever go that far, doesn't really make power.

Had a great day, thanks to all the organisers etc, EVO was going well, did that many laps I was stuffed at the end of the day.

Had a big spin myself coming up the hill out of the esses, stopped before the tyres so no damage, feel for the Skyline driver as it's part of pushing it, just unlucky.

Those look great - thanks for posting them up.
