Actually had the fortunate luck to see this years ago when the space shuttle was chasing it down to dock with it. I was in Eneabba and up before the asscrack of dawn as normal for work on the mine. The space station went overhead and just before it went out of sight the shuttle came hooking along way up in the sky. /CSB

When you realise just how far above the surface of the earth they are and how quickly they are moving accross the sky, you begin to appreciate just how fast they are moving up there with zero atmosphere around them.

Any idea roughly where in the sky to look? I remember about 4 or 5 months ago, watching a satellite cross the sky... was also just before the crack of dawn.

Look south east heading north east by the look of things.

yeah i saw it a couple of years ago too just before dawn, was going west to east then, tonight it went south to north.
when its directly overhead you get a real good idea of the speed its going, it was so bright even my crappy phonecam got a pic
my 6 yr old was especially impressed :)
