they got 3D TV's in shopping centers in Thailand, picture is very fuzzy and unclear, so i would wait. plus paying 4 grand for a TV is kind of stupid if only a handful of TV shows and movies are shown in 3D

at the moment you do, but later on in the future you probably won't need to
you can switch the TV between 2D/3D if your watching a non-3D show or movie.
i personally wasn't hugely impressed with 3D in the cinemas so i won't be upgrading. Plus my TV is awesome imo

I heard the idea of 3d tv's was getting canned as there was to many precautions with them. Maybe its still going ahead though im not sure.
i wont be upgrading though.
3D is a fad. I can't see it being mainstream until no glasses are required and viewing angles improve.
I'm keen for UHD/4K (7680×4320), I wont be upgrading my 55" LCD until I can get a 4K panel.

3D is definately a goer, one of our east coast stores has one setup for display.
As with most things, I'd be waiting until it's a) refined some more, and b) the 'bleeding edge' tax drops.

Well in the UK there "Apparently" going to broadcast the World Cup in 3D still... but the family i have over there reckon its pretty average and they'd prefer to watch it on a 2D tv

Sony want to broadcast certain parts of the world cup in 3D. Watched some of their European cup footage in 3D at a sony night, not impressed. Still think its too blurry and not smooth enough to be AWESOME!!! The new 3D tvs however are really good normal TVs for reasonable prices. Buy new TV that does 3D but dont use it for 3D. Simple.

Bingo. Wont be upgrading my 46" Sony XBR until UHD is available.
Guess I'll have to upgrade all my Blu-Ray's then as well! :(

blu rays may need upgrading sooner than later, they just released a new bluray which holds 125GB (off top of my head) which current blu ray players cant play and a firmware update wont fix either
not that many movies are likely to need that kind of space, unless 3D takes huge storage

BDXL is designed for commercial data storage, Not home entertainment.
BLR is safe for now.

For about $5 you could do the thing that asian guy did for Nintendo - making his TV sppear in 3D - looked fantastic - somewhere on YouTube. Has his own site too but can't remember the name for anything.
Better than spending 4k.
