Red Bull plane crashes into river
STAFF REPORTERS
April 15, 2010 - 12:12PM
A Red Bull air race plane has crashed into the Swan River.
Police spokeswoman Ros Weatherall confirmed a plane had crashed into the river this morning. Emergency services are on their way to the scene.

A pilot has already been rushed to hospital, according to reports, but police spokesman Samuel Dinnison said he was believed to be okay.
The crash happened about 11.50am.
An air race spokeswoman said organisers would release more information shortly.
One witness said the plane has almost disappeared under the water, but had now righted itself and was just "bobbing in the water", while another said they saw a "big splash" after watching a yellow-green plane doing routine training.
Two boats immediately raced to the scene, while another was on its way to the area.
Another witness, who works at the Boatshed Cafe at South Perth, told Radio 6PR that rescue boats moored at the jetty were at the scene less than a minute after the crash. The plane had just been over the Narrows Bridge.
Today was a training day for this weekend's race, with this morning being the first training session.

Wonder if it was a mechanical/structural failure or just error from the pilot? Still holy shit that would have been scary

Pfftt... Crash into the river. Would never have happened if Rally Aust was still here. ;)

same as BF1942
Obviously wasn't concentrating hard enough.
May I suggest sir, that you next time ingest some form of energy drink. This will help improve your alertness, increase your heartrate and reduce your reaction time.
"Mother" might be a good choice...

looks like pilot error, is it because they have opened up the events to get more numbers some of the pilots arent quite as good?

So if he were French, he would simply jump out of the water.

Yes.
Or if he was Italian, his massive penis could have been used as a flotation device.

The aussie pilot would still be sitting at home with a VB in hand, too lazy to get off the couch so he would be safe.

He'd rock up at 2am drunk and laughing telling his mates he has a stunt plane and taking it for a spin for them to watch. Crashing after doing a supersickcoolfuntime arieal - only to jump out holding his beer in the air yelling " I DIDNT SPILL ANY" - while in the background half a historical museum or something like that burns down. They all giggle while running back to the Commodore and swinging nuts on the lawn before driving home.

Looks like he might have stalled his left wing. Seeing as the left wing was inside the turn it would have had less airflow over it and coupled with the disrupted air flow caused by the high angle of attack a stall was likely. Usually when one wing stalls it causes the plane to roll toward the stalled side and the natural reaction is to use the ailerons in the opposite way to correct the roll, However this actually deepens the stall.
For a moment there you can see him make that mistake before over coming his instinct and correcting it with opposite rudder and righting the plane with not a moment to spare. Poor airmanship but nicely bellied given the circumstance.
Wrong , his massive eyebrows would of waterlogged and have he would of drowned
I'd like to see a Bunbury person in the river.. they'd be having their annual bath.

Everything in moderation Joe. Sort of the same as your car leaving the garage, it's annual.

haha just read this thread... awsome replies.
it wasnt the engine that stalled though was it? thought it was a wing that stalled causing that side of the plane to drop and hit the water...?
