View Full Version : removing liquid nails
i recently moved all my tools and chucked my socket set in a tub with various items from the shed.
i had liquid nails in there that some how leaked and went all over 3 of my sockets (only on the outside thank god). the sockets are still usuable but it's pretty annoying.
what would the best way to remove liquid nails, if any? thanks!

Try heating them up with a heat gun to soften the liquid nails then scrape it off. If that fails you could try something like acetone, might eat away at it a bit and shouldn't do anything to the sockets.

Soak in turps overnight then it should rub off with a rag ;)

considering a socket has a shiney finish the liquid nails wont of be able to actually stick to the surface so with a bit of heat or boiling it should come of pretty easy.

there are products at Bunnings that remove silicone products, I had silicone all over the lower section of the body on the skyline to hold the sideskirts on, which I needed to remove. Purchased a tin of silicone remover which is like a paste similar to paint stripper, left it on there for 10 minutes, came back and I could wipe the silicone off..

really dan? hah gotta try that the landy has silicone on quite a few panels and interior from work lol.
so i couldn't be bothered going to bunnings today. instead i just soaked the effected sockets in boiling water for 10minutes, then used a shape blade and i could basically pull all of the liquid nails off. not as stubborn as i first though. mr mike was right, liquid nails peeled right off!

Agreed, or something highly caustic like paint stripper. Worked for me.
