His Name is Bailey, his game.. being a pingpingpingping

The good

Not viscous at all

The bad

Will destroy your home and your life

can not be left in the house, infact if hes not in the same room as you, hes chewing something, has a taste for mosimo belts and DC shoes

He is house trained, but will piss on the floor just to be pingpingpingping

if he doesnt get laid soon i fear he might throw himself infront of a car

cant be taken for walks unless u enjoy looking like an idiot

u have to close all your windows when you go out as he will chew through the fly screen and proceed to destroy what ever room he gets in to

doesnt bark when people come to the door, but will howl for an hour if he sees one of the cats, regardless of the time, or what time u have to be up, or how much you drunk lastnight. and he will bark at you if you tell him off for something, he thinks its a game i dunno.

we have spent a fortune on puppy training to no avail and its not that hes a bad dog he just needs a farm or something, maybe hes skitzophrenic im not to sure.

chop his fuckin nuts off, then you'll get some peace and quiet. i sacked my dog cause he was too full on and although he's a great looking dog didnt figure anyone would want to use him as a stud. he's 2 and a half now and is obsessed with breaking through fences to annoy the blind 14 year old dog next door. ive tried everything and he just keeps at it. he's pretty food orientated so i found withholding his food of a night time kept him in the yard til the morning then feed him in morning and he scoffs then sleeps all day and repeat. could try this?

Yeh could give it a try I guess, will speak to the olds later. tbh though im just over it, over $300 worth of clothes went in the bin the other day.

Don't let dog inside - easy. :)

sounds like you need to let it "run away" again

Niva
13-03-2010, 06:23 PM
I dont let it in, as soon as i leave the room he makes an assault on the window, and he can fuck off if he think im sitting inside with the windows closed.

cant just let it run away, he would almost certainly be run over within minutes.

mate my dog did the same except instead of a few hundred dollar pairs of shoes he ate all the lino flooring in my brand new house. Took me a year to save up for wooden floorboards to fix it haha.
He will grow out of it within the next 6 months. Keep him outside when your not home and when you are home keep him near you. My dog destroyed my house but now hes the best dog Ive ever seen and everyone who has met him can vouch for him.
But I still dont let him in the house when im not home.
Chop his nuts and keep him outside when your not home and you'll be glad you kept him!

Can understand your frustration, however there's no bad dogs... just misunderstood ones.

Some helpful tips if you're interested:

Firstly, the dog is bored shitless.
1. If your backyard is secure, keep him there instead of inside the house destroying things you leave within his reach.
2. Sack him. This will calm him down.
3. Invest in a bunch of toys to activate his mind when you're away. You can get Kong balls you fill with dog biscuits that he needs to puzzle out of the ball. You can get similar toys on an elastic rope that he can spend hours jumping at and bashing around to exhaust him as well as work his brain.
4. If walking him is difficult, get a Halti but go to training to learn to use it properly. Beagles will follow their nose so I think it's best to keep them on a lead and using a Halti can make this a fun experience.
Furthermore, take him up to Whiteman Park if you live nearby - an old emu run is now a fully enclosed dog exercise arena he can run free in til you can catch him again.
5. If you want him to stop chewing on anything, sprinkle cayenne pepper or rub Vaseline or something onto the items/flywire/area you want him to avoid.
6. Sounds like the telling him off for barking thing has become a game - possibly one he invented because he is bored. Disallow him access to areas of the house where he sees the cats (if able) Be proactive.

Anyhoo, GL finding him a home if that's what ends up happening.

Thanks to all for the suggestions, Ive decided to give him another shot, the guy who comes to the house to train him can get fucked, I think we are just having a hard time adapting to a more active dog (even if he is a pingpingpingping) last dog was a great dane and litterally never once had to smack it or tell it twice to do anything.

Gonna get him a kong ball tomorrow instead of operation flashpoint 2. can u spell sacrifice? haha

thanks again for the suggestions / comments

After hearing about your problems I swear my staffy is cross with beagle. She is almost 1 1/2 years old now and she is much better than what she was. I found removing access to parts of the house you don't want destroyed has helped a lot!

That and I think she understands me when I'm pissed off now! Give him another shot. Good luck

Give Bark Busters a ring mate, they should be pretty helpful, he is pretty full on but gets the message across. I thought some aspects were overboard and didn't agree but heaps of aspects of the training were good and it's a life time service. We picked up a few things with our Border Collie who now has ate 5 pairs of sun glasses, 2 pairs of shoes 1 set is MIA, 2 hats and various household items.

you have purchased a dog breed reknown for not being able to be trained. They are one of the smartest dogs around. you need to occupy him... toys galore, take that zap collar off too... its not solving any problems....

he is bored and young... he likes to explore.... its what they do...
and nut him asap..... will calm him down... the sooner the better for everyones sake...

What Lozzle said about the dog creating his own games is true (re: barking). The fencing I share with my neighbours has broken down and as a preventative measure I put up some temp fencing to keep Hooper from going into someone elses yard. Once he busted through, I reinforced it more heavily and ever since it's been a game for him to charge through, me to come up with more reinforcements then him to break through those also. Now I just leave him over there. Fence gets fixed tomorrow thankfully. When it got to the point that he was literally running up, jumping and smashing through thick chicken wire I stopped making new fence. He has cut open his head etc from doing it (pitty x mastiff.. - rock head)

Also, your dog will not destroy that Kong. It's my dog's favourite toy, he has tried for 2 years to chew it to bits and no success.

my puppy used to eat stuff at random times. when he was younger
ate lounge in bedroom.. bit thru bars of cot.. pillows. the coffee table he chewed a corner off.

all done in like 5 minutes. come back in the room.. he's sitting on couch looking cute.. and youd never expect him to do something soo naughty coz he's looking cool as a cucumber.

he's almost 2 now and he hasnt chewed anything for a few months so i think he's finally over it.
he's got another dog to play with and they keep themself occupied when were not home. both have no nuts tho. chopped them off at like 13 weeks.

mrs friends got a beagle and she used to cry and wimper at random. but now shes grown out of it. im guessing a weird puppy stage ?

Beagles are one of the stupidest breeds. They take at least 80 repetitions to learn a new command. They will get there but its a painful process.

yeah thats why they use them in customs

beagles are smart dogs, just exceedingly difficult to train and difficult to keep entertained at times.

I have a 9 month old beaglier, chews shit all the time, but i still love him.
was difficult to train, but got there eventually, graduated top of his class at rspca dog training once he got the idea.

dont give up on your dog, just try some new things to keep him intersted and excited. Sausage frozen in a block of ice is always a good one.

Customs use them because of their sense of smell and are less intense then other hounds.

One of the main test of a dogs intelligence is its ability to learn commands, beagles take an eternty to learn anything. Hence they are classed as stupid.

Just becasue they can be trained (eventually) to serve a purpose does not make them intelligent.

This is a bad idea. Sounds good to begin with, and fun to watch.... But dogs will develop a complex and become obsessed with finding the dot. Its a good way to unlock a lot of mental issues.

Good thing to do in summer is to get an ice cream container, and mix up a bucket of water with some beef stock.... Fill the ice cream container half with the water, freeze it till its almost totally solid. Then put a small lump of beef in the middle, fill completely with the water and let it freeze solid. Then put it on the back pavers and let him push it around till it melts and gives him the treat, while tasting and smelling like beef the whole time.

The other thing to do is, as said before, get something to put on the stuff you don't want chewed. DON'T use chili, this can upset a dog and burn him lots. Horse radish/wasabi is the shot. You can also buy this stuff called "no more chew" from pet shops, worked well when training my dogs.. She used to chew up my power adapters and I was scared I'd come home to a cooked dog.

And always train your dog to 'heel' on the right hand side - contrary to popular city training which teaches them to be on the left. This is because if you want to take him out bush, your rifle generally points down to the left (if you're right handed), and you don't want a dog in front of the noisy end.

On that point, rabbits make excellent chew toys. Dogs love squeaky chew toys.
