Just thinking to myself atm really... but am wondering does anyone have any firm experience or knowledge on whether the following conversions require full engineering or simply a change of engine form.

-rb20 r31
-rb25 r31
-1jz cressida

all are lowering original capacity so i think engine number change will suffice. you may get asked for a im240 test for turboing non-turbo car

so long as you do the brakes, etc for 20/25 in a 31.. you should be ok cause it's lowering the capacity (assuming you go aus spec)

mines slightly different cause its raising the capacity though

go rego mine and see what they say. :P

As long as its my name no worries :)

i have no idea how mitchy had so much trouble but ive registered a rb25 r31 and a rb20 r31 and they both sailed over without a problem. The rb25 one had 4 pots the rb20 one had normal calipers.

I doubt they give two shits, The only problem you might have is emissions but if u keep it stock looking id say u could talk your way out of that one. Domt turn up with a piece of shit and a dodgy conversion and expect it to sail over. both of my cars looked like they were supposed to have those engines and you would be hard pressed to find soemthing that didnt look stock.

Your old 1j cressy got a change of engine number but never had to pass the pits so dunno what to expect
just go buy it back mark is doing sfa with it. Its a way better car than when you had it too its got mods and all the dodgy crap got fixed - win win - dunno how it will go getting regod tho cause of the comp and turbo kit definatly need emissions test. Cant make all that shit look stock

i havent had ANY troubles, i have never taken it to the pits.

yeah no point paying rego when it just sits there getting its wheels swapped.

Hahaha snap

Any idea what Mark is chasing for it (not a genuine inquiry by any means but i can dream)

I know he knocked back 5500
but i think it was advertised for 8 so somewhere in between that. might have even been less than 8 im not sure. The new drag car has priority at his house the cressida never stood a chance.

why does my car lacking number plates get your knickers in a knot?

much like how you say the cressy has turbo/ecu making pits an issue... do you actually know what is in my 31? the only 'stock' thing about that engine in the intake manifold. (which is soon to be replaced with the plenum in the boot)

i guess if i was in your shoes id want it on the road - its nothing personal

Ive seen pics of your engine bay when it was getting tidied up by you all that time ago and that thing would have sailed over the pits it doesnt look half as modified as you think it does. Its just going to get harder to licence the more you change it

No point being regoed for mitchy, he cant drive it.

Same as me atm.

if your increasing factory power by more of 25% you need to fill out the modification application paperwork shit, and then if they think you need it enginebeered they will tell you at that point, change of brakes need brake test etc. I mean some people will get away with it, but if you dont thats what you are supposed to do.

Also if you increase power by 25% you will have to complete an emmissions test

they wanted an engineers cert for my old car (rb20 aussie spec 31)

can pass it easily though, the less you change, the less they have to test for. if by chance you had standard brakes and a standard exhaust, no brake tes or noise test would be required.

So what would you need then test wise?

BUMP for this thread.

In regards specifically to a 1jz cressida transplant.

If you take a look at this link:
http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/vsb_ncop.aspx

Especially the third .pdf from the top:
http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/pdf/NCOP3_Section_LA_Engines_3Feb2006.pdf

It says this:
http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/5781/engine.png

So does this mean that 'officially' all cressida 1j transplants require engineering assessment, and some people have just gotten lucky and only required a change of engine form.

Or have I confused myself, or am I looking at the wrong documentation?

Cheers

how would this go with pulling a v8 out and putting a 6cyl in with a turbo in a 1975 ish model??

Keen to know more too considering I've turboed the factory motor.
