180sx/S13 would be one of the more punished imports out there as theyre a very popular drift sled. Look for previous accident damage (especially chassis rails).

SR20 or CA18? Cold start on a SR20 can usually give a fair indication of the problems lurking beneath the engine covers. They're fairly reliable motors and plenty of aftermarket support.

The usual components, clutch, diff, gearbox can all have issues if its been hammered. If its an early model with the digital display - make sure that works as its cheap replacement...

rowlzey, ur a cockmunch. Do some research, actually learn something about cars, learn to speak engrish, learnt to type engrish, gain an appropiate attitude then come back and ask considerable questions.

yer cool. I hope you are having fun talking shit on my thread. Can some one please explain to me wot this thread is about, i dont think it says anything about, "talk shit on this thread" Why do u waste your time talking shit on antilag all the time. You dont actually have any thing good to say on the threads. You are actual lease use then me askin these stupid questions. Studying how people talk on there forums, the only reason i changed my nickname is because new computer and email. I got money and lots of options. Go have fun driving your auto. I will buy any of those 4 or 8.lol. if they offer a good reasonable price for it, at the moment imports101 said it will take 10weeks to get a gtir or r32 in. I dont want a r33 or rx7 any more. GtiR no bc it takes too long to import in. r32 maybe but probally not bc c-red is gettin their next manual in 6 weeks, and no really good private sellers out there. If there are, pm ok, bc im interested but buying car by tomorrow or next week for sure. In the 180sx side, my mate is selling his, so i was just wondering about them, he might give it to me for good price, so i will see how it goes. he recons they are a strong engine, but i hear every thing nowadays and i dont like wasting money. So it would be good to find out how reliable they are??? Is that such a stupid question to ask...and maybe u should not reply bc u dont seem to know much...lash some other prick on antilag..

Well

I had both a Prime 180sx and a R32 skyline. So I believe I can help ya.

The 180sx was a much more nimble and lighter feeling car. Its feedback through the steering is solid and it tends to have just a little more grip than the skyline did. The interior is smaller, but adequate and comfortable. The 180 has a lovely look to it as well.

Mech problems. Ok. Gearboxes. If you thrash it, you will go thru boxes - the current owner of my old 180sx whos a mate has been through about 4. Its only if you drive em hard. Bearings went on it as well - due to oil starvation. If your gonna do nuts or drift it, if it hasnt got a baffled sump- ur eventually gonna get oil starvation and it will do the bearings. Diffs go when there hammered.Mmm what else? Thats pretty much it - Performance wise i cant really tell ya - I had a SR20DET with a aftermarket ballbearing turbo and it was great. Stock - after so many of my mates having stock SR20DETs - its very hard to gauge. I know some guys with the same mods as others and there cars are absolutely sluggish- and pretty much everything was looked at on those cars. Then I know some people whos near stockers absolutely hammmmer. I had a mate who bought a 180 with a catback+filter and I drove it and it was so dissapointing slow - it felt like actually playing GT4 - with a slow stock car :P - and it was manual - wasnt even chirping gears or nothing. A good mate of mine has a fairly fresh silvia with a SR20 and its AUTO - simple pod filter, catback and well maintained engine. This thing absolutely hurts, in spins the wheels into 2nd nicely - and its AUTO!! Ive raced a VT SS Gen3 and demolished it with it - so all I can put down to it was that the engine was pretty fresh and taken care of - due to the car being standard and automatic in the past.

The R32 had the killer look and style to it - I love the shape and in perth there not that common. I bought one with a RB25DET. I tested ones with the RB20 and i was dissapointed to say the least. After selling the 180 which was enormously Torquey low down - the RB20 felt like nothing.

R32 gearboxes go when u give em hell. Diffs take a beating. You get good power outta em if u spend the $$$$ for turbo, management and intercooler upgrades. There a bigger car, feel less nimble, feel heavier, dont feel as responsive, break traction easier. Adds to the driving experience - I love em - good cars.

So, for 14K - I reccomend you getting a R32 because ur gonna struggle to find a decent 180sx for that price.

And as far as Stock VS stock goes - I know id r ather have a R32 ANY day.

rowlezy makes another thread about me! awesome!

mate in answer to your question about what i am going to get Right now there are three car options available to me..and me, unlike you, am not bullshitting

1) 1997 Nissan Skyline R33GTR with 72,600Km for $19000AUD
2) 2001 Jeep Wrangler with 65,000Km for $20,000AUD
3) 2003 Honta Integra Type R in black with 13,871km for $19,000AUD

truth to tell..ill go the DC5 because i will be able to afford all maintainence and with only 13,000Kms its a BRAND new car....so if i were in your shoes..id get a cheap, neat, clean bunky sub $10K. With Hoon laws and yellow stickers etc i wouldnt get an R32 or 180sx...too much hassel in costs, maintenence and unwanted attn.

R32s (in good nick) still tend to go for more than 180s (not inc type X's) if you havent noticed!
R32s will never be as quick as a 180 (nor handle aswell standard), but look nicer, have been thrashed less and hold their value slightly better.
You can say that SR20s are more torquey down low agreed, but they will never like to be rev'd up like the RB20s do, so that sort of trades off and i know which id prefer!
Both are pretty awsome cars in general :)

hey Jazza by the way both the R32 and the 180sx are 0-100 in 6.5 seconds and the SR20 nd the RB20 have the same torque.... and the RB20 holds more torque through the whole rev range.

Shaolin whats involved in importing one of those GTR's over here :) i'll give you 22 grand :P

1) its LHD for a start (not sure if that matters)
2) to NOT have to pay tax u have to own it in your name for 2 years
3) Those prices i listed are for quite modified cars..u cant get stocker GTRs here cos all the locals have modified them - so they MAY have to be stripped down etc...

i really dont know dude as i said i havent really looked into it cos at this point in my life i want reliability

Eh.. standard if youve been in both 180s are a lil bit (noticeably) quicker due to nearly 200kg weight advantage, also why the are much more nible and easier to throw around corners..
Obviously if ones modified and ones not that will win, but standard vs standard and modified vs modified (same mods) 180s are quicker.. saying this im still buying a Skyline soon :)
Rb20s can rev much better (lets see SRs rev to 8k happily with a few mods.. YE RIGHT) but do tend to feel alot less torquey throughout the rpm, again due to similar levels and the added weight the Skyline carries.

Jarrod mate, your 180 was a freak.....

Glad you sold it, cause i didn't like telling people my mate owned a stock 180 that chops me hahaha

Jazza
02-04-2005, 08:44 PM
I think you have to add another 100kgs for the GTST :)
Jarryd!!!!! U know how to spell my fucking name hahaha And u forgot to mention it was a CA18! hehe
Dun worry, just gotta go buy something else to chop you with ;)

Btw dude, if you had driven both cars with similar mods you'd probably understand more, however ive heard there is weak RBs around... series 2 RBs are also abit better. Some RBs make up to 40rwhp difference with similar mods, maybe the R32 i was in had a weaker one as i said its fairly common to find alot of weak RB20s..

yer go the Type R Shaolin :)

Shaolin242
03-04-2005, 06:27 PM
yeah its a either a Type R or a Wrangler..i dont want a turbo (not cos i dont like them, only cos they cost too much to maintain and i have no real practical mechanical knowledge on how to modify/fix them myself" - oh and i cant afford to have my only car in the shop every 2 weeks :/

hey bros im bak, me threads seem to get good attention. Madshit.lol, aaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Jazza
03-04-2005, 08:54 PM
i noticed you only said you wanted reliability?
I think the Wrangler would be good for that.. depends if you want a sports car such as the Type R or not. Nice as car.. but are you thinking of family soon or anything as then it would become abit unappropriate. So add up what you think you'll want/need in the near future and buy on that :)
Sorry for going off track on the 180 vs r32 topic hehe
