View Full Version : Wastegate venting atmo

Anyone one have any experience how much benefit venting the external wastegate to atmo powerwise??

Basically, I'm borderlining 300whp and current setup have my wastegate recirculated back to my 2.5" turbo back exhaust straight after the turbine housing since it was much easier to fabricate back then. Now I need to step over that 300 and it will all be good....

ive got 340fwhp with the wastegate plumbed back into a 3" system

no issues whatso ever

Just make sure its a nice flowing entry for the wastegate gases to meet the rest of the system

ive always been told a plumb buck wastegate is similar to losing .5inch off the exhaust.

say if u have a 3inch exhaust and plumback your lookign at a flow of 2.5inch where as if u have a 3inch exhaust with screamer ur looking at 3inch flow... if that makes sense.

With turbocharging bigger exhaust usually means better?

whether your gate vents into the exhaust or not doesnt help power much at all.
what does is the efficient flow of exh gas into & out of the gate which is good for boost control, which does help power.
either way, i would worry more about getting rid of the 2.5inch system & going 3inch

it will if the exhaust is too small to cater for all of the exhaust gases to flow through.

i think a 2.5" exhaust would be too small as is, especially if the wastegate gases are flowing through it as well.

.

which it rarely is & if it was, the issue would be boost creep anyway

This is what I was trying to get it at, 2.5" is too small restricting power once exhaust is at fullest (wastegate cracked open WOT). Venting it to atmo for the sake of gaining 10-20whp by releasing pressure in the dp is what I'm curious if it is capable.

Problem is got my car re-tuned yesterday with the bigger turbo, power still drops after 6000rpm just like last time.

Plumb back is for sissy girls

So damn hard bro, engine bay pretty tight like sissy girls pussy.

like i said your exhaust is too small either way.

change ur pipe seriously.. 2.5 is too small for ur power figure..
as we speak do a 3 inch from 2.5 dump and try atmo ur gates if you have space on the cramp engine bay.

keep ur cast manifold get it slightly ported and polish or change it to ram horn style which means u have to mod ur rads and ur a/c is gone!

get a better intake manifold! or port the intake valve ;)

and u will head to 300 easy!

power is dropping off cos the exhaust is too small.

drop it at the dump and rerun, bet it holds to limiter then :P

with the screamer pipe ive found i have alittle less go off the line, like it needs abit of compression, but up top seems to have more, then againt he wide mouth dumps are pretty shit.

That makes absolutely no sense.

Screamer pipe is after the wastegate. Unless your hitting full boost as you leave the line, the gate wont be open and you won't have any gasses passing through the screamer pipe...

?????????????? Only opens at WOT bruh, it wont crack open bypassing the exhaust gas until the boost pressure exceed desired point.

I'm going to ASG this thurs see if Nick can fab up something special for me (bolt on screamer pipe for track, flanged bolt on back to recirculated for street and pits).

Ohh, this is on 38mm Turbonetics evo gate
