Hi guys
I'm fitting a HKS Sequential BOV to my mates soarer this arvo.
Looks like there is two ways of fitting them.
1) Remove factory BOV, blank off the BOV's stock mounting location, blank off the inlet pipe to the BOV and fit a replacement pipe before the throttle body with the BOV attached there.
2) Remove factory BOV, blank off the BOV's stock mounting location, and attach aftermarket BOV to the stock BOV's inlet pipe.
I'll stick to #2 as he has the required bits to do it easily.
I'll be making the blank plate out of a 2-3mm aluminium sheet I have, and I'll apply some gasket maker between the surfaces too for a good seal.
So what I'd like to know is if anyone who knows the dimensions of the blank plate, so I can have it pre-cut and polished up before he gets here?
This pic shows the one that Turbosmart provides if you buy their kit.

rekon you will want to use something much more beefy than 2mm ally plate for that.
at least 12 would be a good start imo

That's only the intake side though (pre-turbo), so its not seeing any boost only vacuum. So the 2-3mm ally should be sufficient shouldn't it?
I think the reason why they give such a thick blanking plate is so the original bolt fits in without bottoming out. I think I'll have to either shorten the original bolt or use washers so that I can secure the thinner blank plate.
yes, only see's vac but with only one bolt the plate might lift when bolt is torqued up.
i just think 2 or 3mm is too thin.
cheers

True, didn't think of that.
I'll give it a shot to start with. If I don't overtighten the bolt, and use a removable locktite on the bolt, and use a loctite for gaskets around where it all seals it should stay nice and flat and provide a good seal I think.
Otherwise do u know any places NOR (Innaloo, Osb Park) which would give me an offcut of some thicker ally for next to nothing?
nah i dont sorry. also not alot of surface area for a good reliable seal there either, might want to make a gasket & use goo imo

for the BOV to function in the first place, it has to have positive pressure applied to it... therefore the blanking plate will also cop the same.
blanking plate will not see boost, thats what the vac line on the bov (he is taking off) is for.
you want to do a good job on the gasket - fuck all goo - otherwise that shit will be sucked into the turbos

errr... then what exactly was the factory BOV venting if the pipework is under vacuum?
the intake piping is all pressurised, that is why they run BOV's on them.
yes but you have got it arse about, the info is in the pics :)

my stock bov is still on my car just blocked. has not been removed. i have an aftermarket bov on the intake side of my car. never had a problem with this set up at all and has no problems with 1bar smash

Mitchy, the blanking plate is to cover the hole which the BOV used to return air back into the intake piping, so that piping is under vacuum and not boost.
In the first photo where the guy is holding the stock BOV, you can see the hole facing the camera, that is where the air is under pressure, and where his thumb is, that connects to the hole I will be blanking.
So in theory, you block off the hole which goes back into the intake (which is under vacuum), then you put the aftermarket BOV onto the hose which is under pressure, use the existing vacuum line off the stock BOV to connect to the new BOV and you get your nice atmosphere vented BOV.
dexplosion, how did you block the stock BOV? Did you just block the vacuum line going to the stock BOV, and leave it still connected to the car? Will the stock BOV ever open up by doing that?

I have a blanking plate from a soarer sitting on my desk at work. If you want I can make a template, scan and email it to you? PM if you want more details.

If you can do this all within 30 minutes then I can make a start on it before he gets here at 6? PM sent.
