you'll be working 6 days a week + the 1 late night + all the after hour calls and follow ups that need to be done, but if you know what you are doing and good at it the cash will come rolling in.

I've worked in car sales. And probably one of the best jobs I've ever had. Are you working for a franchise yard? If so, the job is easy. All you have to do is sell the car and other people take care of everything else. Average pay structure when beginning is $500 retainer, $100 for every car you sell and 10% of all total aftercare sold.
I was selling 4-5 cars per week. There's a grand in your pocket for the week easy. Although mind you, i was working for a non-franchise yard so I was doing more work and got paid less. The plus side was, it was team commission so even I got paid on the other sales also. Not only that, I was working with the best bunch of people. Couldn't have been happier. You have to be very social and get along with your other salesman and also be able to instantly adjust your personality to compensate your customer's personality.
The hours are long, 60hours a week average. 10 hour days, 13 hour wednesday's and 5 hour saturdays. While the hours are long, the money is very rewarding and the days are actually quite relaxing when it's quiet and very enjoyable.
Definitely an easy position to get hold of and a lot of money to be made. The ONLY downside I can see is, the long hours. It's not a hard job and there's not a lot of work to be done.
I started selling when I was 18. You just have to be confident and have good convincing skills and you HAVE to be able to think on the spot. Long hours, easy relaxing job and good money.
Feel free to ask any other questions mate!

so guessing you already have your license?
How do you "know" you would be good at it?
Check all the details of 30k retainer, as it is fairly high for someone who hasnt got any previous experience in auto sales.
stumps.

I did it for just under a year. It takes a certain type of person to sell in which I thought I had as all of my family either sells heavy trucks and machinery or bmw's in the U.S. I was wrong.
It is still the most fun job I ever had but kiss your life as you know it goodbye.
The hours are long and tedious, I did get bored quite a lot and having people treat you like a piece of shit eventually wears you down.
I worked at a franchise yard, cadet retainer was $350pw after tax with $100 before tax minis.
We got to keep all aftercare and accessories commission.
I much preferred selling used over new as the deal was so much easier and you got paid quicker. Especially when you would have to wait up to 4 months for a car to be delivered, it really sucked ass.
Personally, it was a great learning curve and taught me how to get a rapport with many different walks of life. It was extremely fun putting a deal together and making it happen. The used car appraisals were always fun especially when the person wanted $20,000 for their $500 Chrysler neon or whatever they were trying to trade.
If I didn't have a family, it would be the best job as you could devote all of your time to it, but as soon as you introduce kids and wives wanting you home at a reasonable hour and to be there on the weekend it made life hard.
Go for the sales licensing course and listen to Cyril Hondris tell you 20 years worth of stories they are quite entertaining :)

Used cars is much better than new cars. Only downside is that the customer will suss out the car more. And making deals is suprisingly a very fun thing to do.
I've worked most of my time at Perth Motorsport (non-franchise yard). Easily, the best job I've had. Never got bored (when there was nothing to do, I'd be chilling with my manager and co salesman just having a laugh). Pay is less and there is more work to be done at a non-franchise yard but it's so much more relaxing and there's no egos. You'll quickly know everyone and it's just like one big family (By the amount of hours you'll be spending with them)
To put it simply mate, if you don't have any major hobbies which you are extremely passionate about that take up your personal time, then take the job. I for one am not in car sales at the moment as I play in a fairly serious band and when I was in car sales I didn't have the time to touch my guitar. The pay is excellent, you get a car, fuel allowance and is a very fun job!

ive heard there's more money in used cars as well, because with new cars you can go shop around they are all the same, used cars are all different so you dont always get screwed down to your minimum deal.
and fuck is cyril still doing the course? some of the shit he comes out with is hilarious

Oh yeah for sure, it's still $100 a car in Used Cars and they get delivered quickly (Anywhere from when the sale is made to 1 week only) which means your pay is fairly big per week.
Forgot to mention, if this is your first time becoming a Salesperson, you don't need to have your Sales licence. Whichever company you are applying for, they are allowed to hire you now and sometime during your probation period they will book you in for your licence course.

He was 2 years ago when I did mine. The guy was a pisser but he dragged the course on with his stories, that's for sure.
