I think what happens tj is I had an earlier version of I tunes, so gone to update and then it wouldn't and phone was in it's update mode. Then disconnected phone as I tunes wouldn't update with it connected for some unknown reason. That was most likely what did it , then reinstalled iTunes latest version. Updated then bam nothing lost everything apps, numbers, notes, pics, and all my iPod music.

Guess that's technology and shit that just happends sometimes.

Yeah so you didn't have latest iTunes and it stuffed up. Hence you did something wrong. Not the phones fault.

Had the same issues during an update - didnt lose any contacts.

Itunes still keeps the same core files to keep your phones contacts etc.

The phone has to work 100% of the time for this to happen, Majority of people I know that have one have had issues,I guarantee every person that has one has had to reset it more than once as it has shit the tin on them. Its a shiny piece of "look at me". People stop referring to it as a phone now and say things like "oh, my Iphone is ringing"
Imagine if you had to go through as much bullshit with any other phone just to activate it or update shit, and you couldnt even use other pc software to do it,or even transfer a simple file without syncing it.People would carry on no end.
But because its cool to own one you happily cop it in the ass.

Lies. I have a bulletproof N95 and it's not failed me once in 3 years (other then a flat battery).

Updating software is the only way with any technology device to keep it functioning properly. iPhones have had how many software revisions?

Never said there was a Perfect phone out there.
I can almost guarantee that every Iphone has to be reset, even yours had to be repaired TJ yet because its still classed as a social piece of awesomeness you will happily support them no end.
If you Bought a car that you could only fill up at one petrol station, had to pull over and reset the ecu to have it run again, send it back to manufacturer to get a new battery as part of the issues you wouldnt buy it.
I dont bag them at every chance, I just am suprised that despite people knowing that their phone has common issues they will be blinded by it to show off how awesome they are by owning an overmarketed POS.

TJ
10-02-2010, 10:13 AM
Marc my N95 needed updating twice to fix sluggish response from the camera and poor battery life.

doesnt make it a shit phone though

social awesomeness has nothing to do with my decision for buying one - it does what i wanted it to do, and the app support it has blows the rest of the market out of the water.

yes mine needed to be fixed - naturally when you drop one from height they tend to break

each to their own.

I haven't had to do any software updates EVER on my WinMo phones. Sure, new phone will have a new version of WinMo, but they only get released once every year, year and a half. No patch ups necessery.

Never had any software issues/updates with my Nokias either. It just works!

Ryan1080

TJ, you do realise there's heaps more apps for other platforms? Thousands. Sure, you guys have the AppStore. Heaps bigger than Microsoft Marketplace (although it's very new but growing), but there's literally tons of software available for free download on the net. Has been for years. And you'll find most of the apple apps are also available on them to run on winmo as well.

Lies. I have a bulletproof N95 and it's not failed me once in 3 years (other then a flat battery).

Updating software is the only way with any technology device to keep it functioning properly. iPhones have had how many software revisions?

N95 was the bomb.

I flashed it so it didn't have that shitty firmware from Telstra, it had firmware straight from Nokia as if you bought it directly from them, worked like no tomorrow, no slowness issues, no camera issues, nothing.

The problem with proprietary software from companies like Telstra and Optus, is they do not update the firmware as new versions are received, they update periodically, and often not at all.

Going straight to manufacturer firmware, you remove any stupid and inhibiting software installed from Telstra and the like, making the phone work faster, and with less issues and problems.

Anyone using a Nokia, I strongly suggest doing something like this if it is possible (it is with most phones, particularly the N series) just google search "Flash N##" etc.

The good thing with BlackBerry OSs at the moment too, is Vodafone (who I am with) updates the firmware constantly. Often though, you will find Hybrid OS releases available for download from CrackBerry forum members which work wonders with the features of the BB series phones.

I haven't seen anything like that with the iPhone, but I haven't used one/have one either so I never looked into it.

Though the whole iTunes shit is a massive deterrent for me, I can barely stand using the iPod but unfortunately Toshiba don't make the GigaBeat anymore and the Microsoft Zune is fucking expensive.

Probably because you have to use itunes to do anything with your ipod/iphone and everything is so locked down. Whereas most others you can actually just drag and drop mp3s etc. I dont mind using itunes as a music player, but i hate the fact i have to use it to add music to my ipod.

never had issues with iTunes or iPhone 32G 3GS or my ipod 80GB classic.
its easy to use and dont see why ppl find it so hard.

had normal phones, Windows Mobile phones (Palm Treo 750 and Palm Treo Pro and Samsung Omnia) and had to reboot those fukers every second day...iphone had to reboot twice in the 6months i had it.

i hated the iphone before i got one..hated it coz every man and his dog went and got one and refused to get one...for years i had avoided it till i got one given to me free to try out from my mates mrs who runs the mobile phone area of there car stereo and phone shop business.....now i cant live without it and love it. my ipod no longer sees the light of day. i put my music on it, podcasts, apps, etc etc and never a glich nor a DRM or any issue..all apps worked fine.

my iTunes is always up to date and my iphone always gets plugged into my pc every day as i get latest podcasts, etc and any updates happen.

i laughed the other day when my gf got her phone back from repairs...Nokia N97 not even 6months old. stopped accepting charge from USB or wall plug.
she got the report back saying "Playing music drains the battery. so please avoid this"

EPIC FACEPALM! STUPID MUPPETS its got a MP3 player in it ofcourse ur gonna play music!!!

iTunes is seriously painful to use.
My computer operates faster when editing a 16mb RAW image in lightroom than playing a simple MOV file in iTunes.

For those that have iphones in the thread;
There is a piece of software called media monkey and its a MP3 sorting program. The advantage is that you can drag and drop music files to the iphone with it. I find it fantastic. goodbye iTunes!

Yes you can hook up bluetooth audio with the iphone.

Really? Last time I checked A2DP wasn't available on the iphone. Mate has one and it didn't work with the Motorola S9 bluetooth stereo headset. Nor with my car's stereo. Unless again you have to 'patch' it up or jailbreak it or something... if you do, it seems like a lot of stuffing around to get it to do what you want. I'd hate to have a phone with a whole bunch of restrictions, controlled by one person. WHat if I was an amateur programmer, and made my own ap? I'd have to go an kiss Steve Jobs' ass top get him to allow it to work on my phone. Ridiculous!

What about streaming music or videos from your computer, while you're out? Using Winamp, Orb etc? Can you play all video formats or do I have to convert them to 'apple' format first?

Which manufacturer? That's the thing, its reliability is fairly dependant on the hardware. WinMo is used by a lot of differnet companies. I've seen slow as fark WinMo phones before, and I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole. Chuck it on a well specced phone and it works beautifully.

I can listen to music and make calls wirelessly with my iPhone through my car sound system. In terms of iPhone capability, it's not that Apple is behind the ball and doesn't have the technology to do what other phone have been doing for some years. Steve Jobs is a smart man and he plays on apple customers loyalties. The 4th Gen iPhone is due in April and that will undoubtedly have more functionality (but will still be missing somethings) and I'm sure the 5th gen will have even more. All he is doing is maximising $$$ out of the same product. All in all the phone is still a great phone. I must say the detractors get more worked up over the iPhone than the fanboys.
