Legallity on types of helmets

Did a search and found nothing on google :-/ So i thaught I'd ask.

Basically have a motocross helmet that I haven't used for a long time and thinking about getting a 50cc scooter to stop clocking up km's on my car and just as a daily commuter. So i was wondering when riding a road bike/scooter, do you need a proper motorbike helmet or can you use motocross ones? Haven't seen anyone on a scooter or bike with one so just asking if they would be legal or not.

why would you want to ? you can pick up new helmets for under $100
if you crash and eat shit how much is your head worth ?

Get a nice Cafe style open face one, you wont look like a complete douche then
