View Full Version : head gaskets
hey guys got a quick question:
When buying a head gasket , what the rule of thumb ? in my case i want to lower the compression so i would like to get a low compression head gasket. Does that mean the thicker the head gasket (1.8mm) the lower the compression or is it the other way around thinner gasket lower compression(1.1 - 1.5) ?

lower compression is achieved via thicker head gasket

if possible dont buy your gasket until you've had your head machined because you need to know how much was removed from the head to be able to decide what thickness of new gasket you need to get your target compression ratio

^^^ What he said!
No point buying a HG that's 3mm thicker (to lower compression to desired amount) only to realise that the head & block had 3mm taken off them to clean em up. You'd be left exactly where you were to begin with!
