Whats every1 opinions on it?

Myself i think its good for two reasons-
1st laws are "supposed to be" and i use that term loosely, even and fair for all. To say its ok for mums dads and pensioners to sit down and have some beers or wine but young people 18-25 will be targeted purely because of their age and the chance they "might" act up is bullshit.
I have often seen agro mid 40's blokes full off piss be the insigators in fights, they get full of piss think they r taking the high ground by telling young ppl what to do and at times resorting to violence or threats of violence then pleading they were the victims when they get their arses handed to them.
Age has nothing to do with it, ppl get full of piss and bravado no matter what age they are.

2nd It is illegal to street drink, end of story. If street drinkin was allowed the rest of the year but they put a ban on it for this one day then that would be a diffrent story. But ur not allowed to drink any other time so why should this one day be diffrent?
Before people get all patriotic with the whole "its australia day we should be able to get pissed" bullshit. How often does every1 get pissed and have a good time with mates on the weekend, for most ppl its probably once or twice a month.
Why not stay sober, enjoy what the government it trying to do for once. Leave gettin smashed and punchin on for any other random day of the year.
I'm a pom but i have lived here most of my life and despite the small issues in comparison to some other places in the world i think WA/Perth is a fuckin great place to live!! People need to stop gettin fuct up, making arses of themselves and bringin shame to this great state.

I agree with the Ban, ruins it for Families having drunk dickheads around, also is a bad look for any tourists there aswell, I don't see why you need to be pissed to watch fire works if you wanna get pissed have a party.

Even though i can see where they are coming from, I think its BS that those in the corporate tents are allowed to drink - license or no license.

If cops want to throw the ball - they should make it a straight complete ban. Feels like they are allowing the wealthier people to drink while everyone else cant....

Completely agree with you, it's a shame families can't go out and just have a nice day in the company of others. However, fine as many people of any age for drinking at the foreshore, it's not going to stop people getting pissed at Bazza's house in Gosnells and heading down to the foreshore to punch-on.

1) Stop people drinking and they will just load up on pills/speed instead
2) There will still be people drinking, they'll just be trying to hide it
3) Anyone seen drinking will be frowned upon and sneered at by the same type of people who vote NO to any changes in WA and also support hoon laws.

Given the number of Police required to 'babysit' 100,000 odd people on the foreshore, it would be a good time to get your skidz on, or break into peoples houses and steal their stuff etc etc.

Actually true, last aussie day I drove home not drunk, but I did have a tiny bit of alcohol in my system (Would put me over the limit being on P's). All the way from Burswood to Canning Vale. Not 1 booze bus, not 1 cop in sight.

this is a bit of a grey area, the corporate tents have done the right thing and applied for a liquor lic. To say they cant drink there is like saying pubs in NB wont be allowed to open on aus day.
The other thing with corporate tents is they will be big wigs and suits who will get all pissed and rowdy but they will be confined to a small arear. Making it easy to manage if need be.

I would enjoy a cruise to be honest, foreshore will be way too packed, transport will be shit and etc. CBF. Can watch fireworks from home.

Edit: and get pissed there too with a little party.

Never go to the foreshore so doesn't affect me but anyhow, typical police/government/wanker/two sided knee-jerk that won't do a great deal.

As usual a small group of inbred spanker's have ruined it for everyone.

Well the mindset of young people these days is if your not magget your a fagget, if you go out you have to be drunk and you cant have fun without drinking.

When I was growing up I felt like I was forced to drink.

Im for this.

i've lived within 5 minutes walk from the foreshore for 25 years and have been making the trip down there for the skyshow pretty much every year for as long as i can remember. it has really gotten out of hand particularly in the last 5 years. there has always been some drunken dickhead behaviour but you never used to get the brawls, random punch ups, and general fuck head attitude that you have there now.

it used to be great heading down there with an esky full of beers, a bunch of mates and just hanging around - usually end up playing a game of cricket with a bunch of randoms or whatever took your fancy. used to be able to get fairly smashed but not make a pingpingpingping of yourself.

i hate to say it but i agree that there needs to be a total ban until they can get rid of the terry tuff pingpingpingping attitude. i'd almost support removing anyone from the foreshore that is trying to stir shit. it's just not necessary.

end of the day, it's the same shit that we always seem to deal with in australia, minority killing the fun for everyone else.

Its so funny ... when I said this in other threads, as did Balistic (one or two ll's ?) we got fucking flamed.

Its good to see that people are sick of the BS that involves with public events in Perth .. and i agree, should be a total ban, and anyone who starts shit, should be taken away and beaten with wet semi frozen 2009 phone books.

Lonewolf

should just stop having the skyshow, Put the money into something more worthwhile.

The ban is a good idea, but as mentioned people will still get pissed at home, conceal their alcohol, drop pills and punch on if they really want to.

Havent gone to the foreshore for a lot of years, doesnt really do it for me im afraid.

kato

Have the normal street drinking rules (i.e. there is none).

Just set up a couple of drinking areas with bars etc for 18+ to 'get pissed' if they want. Everywhere else is a no drinking area. Cops/security can hang around and get rid of the bad behaving lot.

"Families" can set up picnic areas far away from the noise and the trouble of people drinking.

Those tought pingpingpingpings that want to cause trouble can be locked up straight away (and should be named and shamed in the paper).

Joe
13-01-2010, 09:38 AM
They should also have a roped off area around the flagpole on the South Perth foreshore, where you can bring your broken-off stubbies in case you want to glass someone in the face.

Thats one thing I always find really ironic... everyone goes to celebrate how Australian they are... ever seen the rubbish these proud Australians leave at the foreshore or other areas? Beaches ect... even on weekends ect.. I am not a hippy but many a time on sunday ( I live just off Mullaloo Beach ) I go past there and just think.. Fucking yokell pingpingpingpings.. you scream for your countries but are your worst fucking enemies. Im human i may drop a ciggarette bud here or there but fuck me.. barbaque wrapping - shit smeared all over benches??

I think you should be able to have a drink - I do but, to stop the chaos this does need to be implemented. Im 27 and don't mind chilling out and watching fireworks being amongst the peolpe ect.. But at the same time, I like to have a drink - get drunk even and go home. I don't need terry tough pingpingpingping starting shit or ruining my day. I can get boozy and have a laugh. I dont need to weigh myself up with every roid breathing cockhead.

end of the day, it's the same shit that we always seem to deal with in australia, minority killing the fun for everyone else.

I lived on Hurlingham Rd for a few years back in the 90s, literally a minute from the foreshore. As a kid/teen, it was always fun to walk around afterwards and see all the pingpingpingpings stuck in traffic (they didn't close the streets back then) and the masses of people making their way home. Each year we came across a brawl here and there, so it's not like there were all angels back in the days. I saw pingpingpingpings stabbed, getting their ribs broken, faces smashed... It was quite bad back then, but I can't compare it to now, as I haven't been there for good 5 years...

Agreed that you don't need to get drunk to enjoy yourself. Having said that, you gotta be a total pingpingpingping to be acting like a dickhead when you're drunk. Drunk doesn't have to equal antisocial. There are people who can have a quiet drink or two, or many even, and not be a nuisance to others. I'm one of them. But then there are idiots who can't handle their alcohol. They should ban these people, and not drinks. It's another case of minority ruining it for the majority I reckon!

BBQ on the beach, in the late afternoon, is always a winner on Australia day. Everyone heads to the foreshore so beaches aren't as crowded in the late arvo, I have found in the past. BBQ, swim and maybe a beer/wine/etc before heading back home to have a few more. Only idiots to deal with then are mates/family.

the grassed area down near the maylands boat club is good, still see the fireworks and there is plenty of room to play cricket and socialise with family and friends. Plus it is easy to get home and you don't have to fight the crowds.

A number of reasons why a boat is better on Australia Day:

- I'm on a boat
- I'm on a boat
- Everybody look at me 'cause I'm sailing on a boat
- I'm on a boat

Boat's definately the way to go. Dad in law's got a big sailboat, might have to drag it out there this year. Can sleep ten people in it too. Can the skipper be drunk if the boat's achored and not planning to go anywhere till the next day??

Worst case beach or the pool... fark the foreshore, way too many carnts!

Too rowdy, fireworks are boring. They're for the kids/families anyway and since the fo'sho' is inundated with drunkards each year ruining the sparkly occassion for junior, I agree with the total ban.

Bugger Perth for Aust Day, I'll be hanging out down south with a bunch of mates, a blow-up SS Rundy, few beers and the beach.

Great, now I have that song stuck in my head.

Being on a boat when leaving the show is chaotic, everybody tries to go at once. Turns into a massive washing machine with drunk boat owners not giving a shit about others.

You can't escape the dickhead "Australians" that are just out to get fucked up and start fights at the sky show.

+2 I've been doing it this way the last few years. Mate has a dinghy and as it's so small, we practically get front row seats in front of all the big boats. And as a bonus, you don't have to line up for boat ramps afterwards!

I agree with the ban, although just for a few extremist's other people have to suffer.. i mean not everyone goes out to the foreshore and gets trashed and starts fights, i go out there every year and have a few beers but just chill out and enjoy the atmosphere and being alive and where we are in the world especially this year after the whole GFC shit.

But to just totally ban all alcohol on the basis that 10% are the ones that are fuck heads, and of that 10% most of them are over 30 and full of piss and dont know what to do with it, because one day a year their wife lets them out of their cage, we all have to suffer, but thems the brakes.

i dunno about small minority. i didn't bother with south perth full stop last year, went to a mates place in shelley instead but the two years before that have really put me off. 08 i went down to the bottom of coode street/flagpole area at about 6:30, i reckon 50% of the people down there were being pingpingpingpings, guys and girls. the previous year was the same thing. sure the flag pole is the cock magnet but the point i'm trying to make is that it's not just a few people doing it, there's heaps of the bastards.

i think the problem wouldn't be so bad if we didn't have everyone coming to the one spot. as more places start to do their own celebrations more and more people will start going there instead of having 300,000 people converge on the south perth foreshore. a big rowdy mob is always harder to control than a small one.

If you think the foreshore is bad, try driving down the river after the skyshow with the amount of drunk fuckwits (and clueless idiots) that don't understand the whole thing is a 8kt speed zone after dusk..... That's how a kid died a few years back, boat flipped and he was inside sleeping and drowned due to dumb fucks not obeying the speed limit, creating large amounts of wash. It's no fun at all in a big boat, I'd hate to do it in a little one. Would rather sleep on deck under the narrows overnight!
