See now shit like this is what gives the police a bad name.

Driving yesterday I noticed this on the other side of the road:

It's a 70km/hr zone.

Basically you accelerate up a long hill, as you crest the hill you back off and coast down the otherside.

If you have a heavy car/4wd and got up to around 75km/hr at the crest, you run the chance of coasting up to about 78-80km/hr as you come down the otherside.

WAY, WAY down the road at the bottom of the long hill a cop is hiding behind the bus-stop and has just pinged you speeding with his lazer gun from about 800 meters away.

The road is divided by about 25meters of island so there is no oncoming traffic, it's a duel carriage way, the cycle path is not on this side of the road, and there are no houses on the side of the road so no pedestrians, so most people would feel safe and probably just coast down the hill into the waiting speed trap...go and set them up out the front of a school or hospital on flat ground you wankers!

I mean, i'm all for catching people speeding, thats fine, but seriously, this speed trap was just for taking the piss! All they would get were low km/hr fines from people who were coasting down a hill...not purposely speeding.

It's this kind of shit that gives the police a bad name and pisses people off!

This pic was taken already HALFWAY down the hill, you can just make out the orange bus-stop at the bottom of the hill inline with the road.

This is where the cop was hiding, completely hidden with just his speedgun out the window of the bus-stop.

Here's a better view of the back of the bus-stop.

Police have been doing this for ages mate. The downhill part on the canning hwy heading east near applecross is a favourite. Sucks but nothing new

Ah yep, Oceanic Dr. Almost been done there many times. It's funny how a while ago the cops were shitty at the multinova operators for hiding the cameras, then they go and hide behind bus stops in shitty locations.

I drive down this road every day...

its actually 60 near the bottom of the hill, you always slow down here!

If you were given a quota to catch 50 speeders a day or else, you'd be doing that too. Easy money...

Wankers!

Don't kid yourself, speed enforcement is 0.1% about saving lives and 99.9% about rasing revenue. It's a simple way that the government can turn any citizen into a criminal and fine them for it.

See I've raised this when various traffic cops and the reply is always "you shouldn't be speeding any time"

Seems the "theres no such thing as safe speeding" concept is really drilled into them during training.

I do agree with you and the other posters above, they're obviously just turning over $$ instead of doing something useful but I can't see it changing anytime soon. I've just been thinking after that lambo got hoon lawed, how could we go about getting the cops to loosen up a bit.

Alas I concede I'm just dreaming..

I'm too ****ing stressed driving around WA roads, even when I'm not doing anything wrong. I've garaged my VL turbo indefinately because I'm always getting pulled up for "licence checks" when I'm driving at or under the speed limit minding my own business. This usually results in a yellow sticker which always gets removed by the pits with minimum fuss.

Driving a stock BA falcoon I'm constantly watching my speedo, scared of creeping even 5kms over the limit, when I should be paying more attention to what other nutters are doing on the road. What makes it worse is when you're in speed limit zones of 40/50 kms where 10+ years of driving experience means the speed you used to feel comfortable doing now means you are a criminal and are subject to a substantial fine.

if they nailed you down the hill, then you might have a case, but theres a shitload of flat road there which they could claim to have gotten the reading from.

I got flashed bottom on a hill on Sunday. Had cruise set to 62 so it creeped to about 67 at the bottom.

Side by side with a 4wd though so I doubt I'll see it.

Car and camera both hidden cleverly. Safe road I drive daily to and from
work.

I can't see photobucket pics at work but I knew you were talking about Oceanic Drive somehow, seen them there before. What's more is it changes to a 60kmh zone where they are taking the readings.

Yup. Changes to 60 about 50m before the bus stop.

recent member of antilag by the looks of it? been driving a modified car long? been hassled by the cops much before. The problem is not what you did or where the cop was hiding, its what you didnt do. I see 3 side streets that your could have taken before reaching the cop and you probably could have avoided being stopped altogether.

Invest in a good quality radar/laser detector. the dector wont give you prior warning for laser, but it does give you options ;) if thats not enough get yourself a laser jammer/shifter. pm if you want to know more ;)

I'm of the attitude that if people are consistently speeding on a section of road, with no incidents - maybe it's safe to do so? Having blanket speed zones is just lazy.
People spend more time looking at their speedometer than watching the road.

Don't you get fucked up for having a laser jammer? Like, badly? Cops would rape you anally for having one won't they?

Rich
12-01-2010, 06:04 PM
most new ones dont show a jam code. it simply registers as a miss so they try again. not getting a reading is normal at those sorts of distances. the idea is you slow down and turn it off so they can get a reading. they should be none the wiser. the police laser guns operate on a public band, i.e. anyone can transmit on it. they have to prove you have a jammer, prove it was on, and prove that it was your intent to mess with their equipment.

If Police suspect you are using a jammer, they have cause to search your vehicle. If they find a jammer say hello to a criminal charge.

I believe its a traffic offence only.

depends how much you speed :)

It is interfering in the "course of justice" I think, so criminal record?

Your blocking the Police from implementing the law?

Obstructing police.

What about those fat dickhead traffic cops who get out of cars with the bike boots (he probably crashed his Honda) on ... carring a gun would be considered what ? . "Attempt to make society better with one person less ?"

kiasu

obstructing police is a good one. was entering the fwy north from karrinyup rd, a cop car was half on the ramp and half on the dirt, pointing a radar gun northbound. w..t..f. obstruction much? especially when karnts are suposed to be speeding up to the limit.

Yup. Changes to 60 about 50m before the bus stop.

then that contravenes guildelines for the use of speed detectors (cannot be within 100m of a speed change)

you have raised a valuable point, i find it amusing that a Well Paid Doctor gets his "lambo" released but if it was a P plater they would get crusified. Cop's are good at being Biased, Revenue Raising and above all inconsistant.
