Hello, i'm having a little bit of trouble choosing a new phone plan there is so

much to pick from, what network, how many calls will i make, it just keeps on

going. Well today ive been shopping around a little for the best vaule for

money when it comes to network package deals, i know i want a iphone with

my plan and thats about it. Currently im on a pre paid sim with Optus, its the

TurboCap deal, so i recharge like $30 per week which gives me $300 worth of

calls and txt and lately the call rates have gone up so its even worst, i just

recharged 2 days ago and i just ran out of credit and im sick of it. its costing

me way to much cash at the moment, i'm not glued to my mobile but i do use

it a lot like most people of this day and age would, i just would like to know

what are other peoples thoughts and what network package deals are they

on... these are the ones i found today and im thinking about signing up with

Vodaphone $69 Cap Plan.

VODAFONE:
$69cap - $400 worth Calls & Txts with 1GB Data
Call rate: 40c per 30secs + 35c Connetion

$79 - $550 worth of Calls & Txts with 1GB Data
Call rate: 40c per 30secs + 35c Connetion
Text Messages: 28c per Txt
$10 a month for 32GB iPhone, Not included in the $79

OPTUS:
$79 - $610 worth of Calls & Txts with 1GB Data

TELSTRA:
$79 - $450 worth of Calls & Txts & $100 Telstra Mobile Bonus Credit

the trick with mobile phone plans is sign up for the cheapest one possible THEN upgrade the plan to the one you want...then when you want to buy out early you can take your plan back to the low amount and pay out less

hope that makes sense!

so your saying if i start at the lowest cap then a week later upgrade to the highest plan, after a month i want the disconect the services all i pay for is the remaining months/costs for the first plan i joined on not the current high plan im on...?

Woah.. okay don't do that, they'll bend you over. Work for Optus while studying, you try that shit and I know for a fact that both Optus and Virgin will ream you with downgrade fees and early termination fees.

Optus $79 plan also includes $640 Optus2Optus value if and only if you use up all the initial $610 Optus2Anyone value. This extra $640 gets used to call and message Optus mobiles and fixed lines.

Do you have an ABN or do you make international calls at all?

that is indeed what he said

but you don't get iphones for free on a 29 cap so if you are going to spend that much anyway might be more prudent to get the 59 caps or whatever and upgrade as needed

also consider network quality. optus is fucking horrific for the iphone (i know I made the mistake of going with them) telstra is probably the ducks nuts but you pay for it.

I'll go back to 3 next time, they fall back onto telstra in country areas

one other thing, if your iphone breaks for a month like mine and a lot of people you know you are going to want to be able to use your old handset. i couldn't because i went from 3 to optus and couldn't use the optus sim in the 3 handset.

got all that?

I'm with optus, $99 a month gives me a free N97 and unlimited calls/txt/mms/video calls to any mobile or landline and 500mb of data. No handset payments, costs per kb if you go over your data cap. I manage to get reception where most my mates dont aswell.

Agree i thought they were shit but when i actually had a serious muck around with one and what they can do there is nothing that competes with it.

Well if you use your phone constantly then one of the more expensive plans would be way to go.

Im on 79 cap and rarely go over

No i dont have a ABN number and i dont make international calls, i just do a lot of every day calls and a lot of txts.

Thanks for everyones input its helpful, so what you rekon would be the best plan for me to jump on, i dont care what people say about the iphone i have already had one but recently sold it wanting to upgrade to the new one, i love them.

Surely you knew that at the time of purchase?

as much as i hate agreeing with anton he's right. nothing to do with knowing at time of purchase. i knew and i still love the phone, but, it is something that you would expect modern phones to have.
altho saying that i love mine. much better coverage at work than my old n95 with telstra. i now only have 5-10 minutes worth or coverage blackspots its great.
on the telstra ultimate $150 plan. nothing up front for iphone plus $1500 worth of calls and txt a month. plus 150mb of data a month.
i use my phone alot and was on a prepaid telstra before. at least 200-300 per 2 week swing at work.

If you hate the iphone (I do) but still want a decent data plan, grab an iphone plan as it already comes with 'free' data, about 250 megs, sell the iphone and buy a more decent phone with the proceeds. You can also add another 500 megs on top if you want, for only 6 bucks. It's what I've done myself. That's with 3 by the way.

I was on Vodafone $79 Business Cap (560min of call, 200txt - free email, free internet, free instant messaging) on a BlackBerry Storm.

I just upgraded to the unlimited $129 cap (unlimited calls, unlimited sms - one page only - still free internet, free email, free instant messaging) on the same phone.

Had to go up, as soon as I didn't have a GF anymore the calls/txts just skyrocketed. Got a $520 phone bill and thought to myself. FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

Wish I had done the switch when I found out about the good deals at Optus, but I only found out after I'd re-signed. Hanging for this 12 months to be over then I'm changing up. Hopefully Sony Ericsson have some mad new phones by then, love my Sony's!

^^What he said!!!
Telstra may have great coverage but they are just not worth the hassle if you need to deal with them.

I'm on the Optus $79 cap.
Only time I've ever gone over $79 was when I first got my iPhone and racked up the MB's.
Unlimited SMS too, can't go wrong.

yeah telstra are a rip but being the only service providers with coverage in remote areas gives me no other choice.

Telstra you need for coverage if you are up north or out of metro areas a lot, you kind of have no choice.

Shit, I have enough problems with Vodafone, when I enter some buildings my phone goes straight into SOS. No coverage.

Though when I was on Optus, there was times when Optus had coverage, Telstra did not.

Telstra is a jip though. N95 on their plans last year ($49 cap) still had handset repayments of $45 a month, wtf???

Prob changed now but yeah.

That's why I was with them for so long, over 3 years in the sticks so I was kinda forced to. Now it's habit and I'm ready to gtfo of my contract.

iPhone.

I would not buy another Nokia til they are made in Europe again. My last set of Nokia's (6233, 6500 Slide, 6500 Slide again etc.) had to be repaired so often it was beyond reasoning.

Their Symbian OS is also slow (IMO) so I would get too frustrated on the Nokia. But that is my view, other people may have had positive experiences. The last good Nokia I had was a 6230i.

Now, I have a BB Storm running the newest leaked OS, its quick, versatile and a great phone. I would take the BB Storm over the iPhone anyday. But not now, when the Storm 2 is due for release here in Aus soon.

i'm with vodafone too and really gives me the shits when reception drops out when you enter a house in the middle of suburbia, sometimes at home if i'm on the phone i have to move around until it find a spot where it stops cutting out, very annoying, otherwise happy with it, i have to use an old nokia we had lying around for when i'm up north and put telstra pre paid on it, sucks having to spend $150 a month on one phone bill plus the prepaid but i can't see any other way around it atm
also have much love for sony phones, just wish my c902 had the same flash as the k800i, takes worse pics at night as a result despite have more mp
chargers on them are shit though, they need to swap to the nokia style chargers
