As the title says, what are some ways of removing anodizing? Sanding it is a pain in the ass! Any quicker ways of doing it?

Cheers

DRAINO!

how big is the piece? if its small then no problems, if its fairly big you might want to have a pump set up to constantly pump the draino over it so you don't have to use so much

i wonder where i learnt that :P

hahahhaa, yes the handy bilge pump !!. Bike swingarms piss me off :(

Submersing it into a container of draino works wonders, as its caustic, thus removes the growth oxide layer known as annodising, while not harming the alum parts.

Let the past soak for about 10 mins, then with a old toothbrush give it a scrub and you see it all fade away and leech out.

its a throttle body so the size isnt the problem but i cannot disassembe it completley, so i cant get the bearings and seals out. i assume he drain will kill them?

I would dare say that no, atleast from exp. The water in the draino will attack the bearing surface, so after the clean it would need a perfect wash and dry, with some WD type spray.

Having said that, bearings are in it, bearings can be pulled out.

Tys, getting annodidising here in WA is pretty dismal, the good companies are over east, ive never had luck with quality or repeat colours being the same here in WA so in the past ive done my own annodising. However there is one company that i havent used yet who do camera bodies and such, apparently to a really nice finish. Ill try and find.
