View Full Version : How do I fix this? (bending thick-ish metal)
So the turbo is all set to go back onto the car except for one little issue, the bracket that holds the wastegate actuator is bent and the actuator arm won't attach to the wg flap properly. I have a feeling it was damaged when I pulled it off, didn't pay much attention when I did. I have no idea how that happened. Wouldn't be a slight bump that bent it as I'm trying to get it back into shape but its quite thick. So the question is, how do I bend it back, what can I do or who can I take it to?

put it in a vice & use pliers or an crescent wrench to bend it back straight.
pretend its a pillar-less 31, should bend easy.

Yeah heat it up and hammer it over a flat surface.

buy yourself a decent sized vice from bunnings ($100-200)
they come in very handy for stuff like this

Sticks and stones pingpingpingping
no need for heat. fuck, you could smash it back into shape with a couple of bricks
i tried just bending it with pliers, it won't budge... unless i'm a weak pingpingpingping. hammer doesn't really work too well too. it doesn't look all that thick but its quite strong

bust the oxy out son, get it glowing and beat it on whatever wont catch fire
well don't have an oxy or any proper tools to fix this... anyone know where i can take it? or will give anyone a six pack if you can do it for me
put the bent face up on the corner of a brick wall & give that a bash with a decent hammer. piece of piss.
i will do it for free if you come here

i wouldnt be putting any heat into it - its only a rubber diaphragm in there after all..

Loves it, obviously dont wave the torch around like a wand, direct the heat with a small tip.
But if we have to explain that, shouldnt be handling the oxy should we.
BTW - I didnt mean actually get it cherry red, thats a bit of a overkill. Was more a figure of speach.

might take you up on that, will give it a proper bashing tomorrow and see how it goes from there, might try heating it up a little with a heat gun or something

Heat gun probably won't do fuck all. Put a carpet over the end you don't want to hurt chuck a bit of wood over the surface you want flat and drive a forklift over it, done it a few times before :D

i know your on the tools, but just out of interest, have you done a trade?
r3n, no worries, but i have a busy weekend.
you could go to any exhaust shop etc & im sure you could get it done in 5mins - without heat

Entertaining doing it to those small cans of cat/dog food, the contents launch over 10m... by accident of course

Put it in a vice, horizontally, wind up as tight as all possible....should flatten out perfectly.
yup... vice is probably the only way to go, bashing it with a hammer gets no where.
