Hey All,
Just a quick question.
Wondering if anyone knows what the rule is with fiberglass fenders?? is it illegal to have fiberglass front fenders on the street? will it void insurance ect ect?
Thanks in advance :)

im pretty certain there illegal as the car loses strength incase of a crash
also if u hit a pedestrian there are likely to crack and cause more injury
so wouldn't that be the same as a fiberglass bonnet or front bar as well?

It's all to do with how they react under collision conditions:
Front/rear bars are plastic from factory and hence can crack like fibreglass, so fibreglass replacements are legal.
Bonnets/fenders are metal from factory and bend/fold unlike fibreglass, so fibreglass replacements of these are illegal.
That's how I understand it, anyway.
There are ADR approved fenders for cars - will cost more but they do exist.
i was told that as long as the fiberglass is more than 3.5mm in thickness without the clear coating it would be fine as stated here

look on Page 9; Section 2.7

This is how I read the VSB14 document aswell. I haven't clicked your link, but I am assuming that it is NCOP6 section LH Body Modifications?
However if you look down at section 4.3, it mentions ADR 10 for pre 1971 vehicles. Quite possibly an ADR for newer model cars that doesn't allow for this?
In saying this, if there are certain fiberglass body parts out there that are ADR compliant, then there is no reason that other body panels of similar construction wont be.
