Anyone on here work at a Ford dealer in a used car sales lot by any chance?
Trying to find out what a car at Centre Ford owes them so i don't get rolled on price...
Have put a fairly conservative offer in & they reckon it's too low as the car owes them more. I just want to make sure it does before i up my offer.

Will pay in beer or cash monies for help with the situation :D

The only tip I can give you is to target the cars in the lot that have lower stock numbers, because they are the older ones and will be the ones that they need to move quicker :) Most dealerships start getting nervous if they are holding a vehicle for over 60days, although theres no way you can find out there exact age.

Mate, i work for a dealership, not as a salesman but i know how much they get each car for, and it wont matter if you know the car only cost them a set amount. If they want a certain amount they wont usually budge unless the car has been for sale for ages and they are getting very little interest.

Did you sign on the dotted line with that offer, or was it just a verbal?

If it was only a verbal, sign on the dotted line with your offer. If they knock it back, offer $200 more. If they knock that back, say its not worth that much to you and leave. Go back after a week with the same original offer. They want to sell the car, but any salesman will lie through his teeth to up the price.

The best deal you will make is one you are willing to lose.

Going back Saturday with my trade-in so i can sign the offer.
2 seperate salesman are working me & telling me that there's bulk interest on the car & saying my ofer's no good, but the sales manager said i was very close to having a deal? Haha.
I also found out that the car has been there more than 60 days, hence the lowball offer :)
End of the day, i'm not desperate to get into something else but i am quickly growing fond of this particular car. I will walk away if they don't want to play the game but am hoping that's not the case...

If it has been there 60 days you will be able to lowball them because after 90 days it starts costing big money to keep it.
Send them the offer with your phone number and walk away, they will call you within the hour.

1. Some sales people will lie to you, you should be able to tell......walk away.

2. Dont appear that you need or want that particular car.......be able to walk away

3. Stick to your guns and justify your possition with similiar cars, red book value. build a case for the value you think the car is worth.

4. dont let them low ball your trade in, ask to see the valuation.

5. at the end if it all yards will burn money to get rid of an old stocker see it plenty of times

What's that opinion based on?

For the record.

When I bought my car I knew roughly what they bought it for, offered them 3k more. Wouldn't budge.

Went to another dealer, same car, same purchase price (previous fleet vehicle) - offered them the same price as dealer #1. They took it.

Sale made. Rumpus room.

You gotta remember there's also GST they gotta account for. They may have bought the car for say 30K from a private person, you offered them 3K more. They sell it to you for 33K, and they need to pay 3K GST... so zero profit.

Effectively most yards (bigger yards any way) have there cars under a finance agreement or "floor plan" each day the car sits there it accrues intrest on the principle amount, the sooner they get rid of the car the less it costs them.

If its a AHG dealership, after 90 days they will just transfer it to another dealer.
