Hey
just got a few questions on importing a car from South Africa as you blokes proberly have importing background info with importing imports.

just wondering how everything goes here at the Port.
i rang a few places and theyres a lot of paperwork involved. one thing is Dota approval.. if not you get a $12,000 bill as soon as the car arrives.

and then theyres the tax's and what not when it arrives. theyres 2 types it seams. one on the car itself.. and then one of the shipping.

and fee's for cleaning the car to make sure theyres no bugs etc.

on a car that might cost $3000 to buy. does anyone know the rough price in total for it to be shipped here with all the expenses payed for?

slightly related is these pix of a bloke using a aircraft to move cars. would be shitloads in cost but it would arrive in a day.. and theyre R35's so thats another cool thing

in regards to cost... my legnum was 600,000yen, or $5,800 at the time.

by the time it was on road in perth after freight, customs, taxes, compliance, stamp duty, rego and whatever else there was, it was ~$13,000 about 18 months ago.

your best bet is to talk to an import broker themselves..

i used kristian at iron chef imports (http://www.ironchefimports.com/) and he is great to deal with, especially with the not-so-common imports. (he imported my leggy, and it was one of the first into wa/australia)

I got mine in from japan thru Imports 101, looked after everything.
This is a link that should give you an idea of the costs you'll be looking at http://imports101.com.au/importing.php

I'd estimate, excluding compliance and registration costs you'd be looking at around $7-8K total including purchase price.

Will it be a personal import, or SEVS, race/rally?

you know a personal import is a vehicle you have owned in the other country for 12+ months and want to import (usually when people move country), yes?

nope. i thort for personal use.. not like rally/offroad etc.

i found this page thru google. about the only one that seamsto come up saying they import cars from SA --> Australia

http://www.australiatrade.com.au/Shipping/Timetable/CarShips/Import/index.htm

it has a link to the form needed for import approval. forms look intense.. and fine for putting wrong info is full on. $110 per point with max of 120 points.

so its not one you want to get wrong.
theyre is cars here the same as i want to import and theyre registered so i know it is possible to do.
