Sold the VL about a month ago loved it for what it was but missed being able to go around corners

heres my current toy

1987 AW11 MR2 Hardtop
4AGE N/A
K sport coilovers
Tanabe extractors
5Zigen 17's
Tanabe extractors
Supercharged engine cover

the paint on the bonnet was all peeling and the bootlid and engine cover were off the halfcut so were a different colour, the previous owner had already painted the roof black so i continued the theme onto the bonnet bootlid and engine cover until i can get the whole car resprayed. The latch on the supercharged engne lid is in a different spot to the one on the n/a bootlid so also installed hood pins to keep it closed.

so far all i've done to it is tidy it up a bit, respray bonnet boot and engine cover, resprayed front bar (which is off a swift gti) and rear bumper, also fitted new front rotors and pads as the old ones were well and truly warped. only standard rotors for now but have seen a nice set of 330mm ksport slotted rotors with 8 piston calipers on justjap, got the wheel bearing fixed, wheel alignment done to trd specs and adjusted the coilovers to improve the handling.

obviously its not a quick car in a straight line at the moment but it corners awesome and is a shitload of fun to drive

I Have a t25 sitting at home pretty much the plan is to collect bis and pieces over the next few months to turbo the current motor with low boost, plan is 7mgte injectors, fuel pressure regulator, haltech ps1000 ecu, liberty rs turbo water to air cooler (and the obvious bits to go with it) bigger fuel pump and custom manifold running around 7psi

heres pics (ignore the messy garage lol) or link to the full gallery of progress pics http://s76.photobucket.com/albums/j37/ultim8m_photos/mr2/

Saw this last night dude, very nice car. ;)

Only thing I've ever disliked about this is the exhaust, looks weird the way it is but I guess there's not really many options with a rear-mount engine, eh?

Everyone that I know that has owned an MR2 always loved them. Unfortunately the most common thing you will hear from an MR2 owner is "I absolutely loved my MR2... until I wrote it off." The short wheelbase and midmounted engine, the layout that makes them handle so well, unfortunately also makes them twitchy and it catches out a lot of drivers.

I looked at buying an MR2 a while ago and the general consensus was that the two biggest killers of MR2s is the lift-off oversteer and the driver touching the brakes mid corner. Either can cause the front and rear to switch places very quickly.

Love the car mate. Keep this page updated as you go, I'm keen to see the results.

yer first mid engine car and also my first car with adjustable suspension so there has been a bit of a learning curve with driving it and also suspension setup.

Snap oversteer was pretty bad when i first got the car, and my first go at adjusting the suspension made it worse, now ive managed to get rid of most of it and adapt my driving a bit more to the car. Ive had it step out a couple of times in normal driving and managed to catch it. spun it twice at barbagello during powercruise first time was exactly what you said hitting the brakes mid corner (car in front of me hit his hard) and 2nd time i had adjusted the suspension and screwed it up.

Now ive got it set up with the front a little bit lower then the rear and had an alignment done to the trd specs and also fitted the rear strut brace which eliminated a lot of the understeer and made it more predictable rather then understeering into a corner and then snapping to oversteer.

yup the exhaust as it is currently is awful cannot stand it lol i would love to change it but there is no point at the moment because it will need to be changed once i get the turbo on anyway maybe go dual exit lol screamer out the left exhaust out the right :P

yeah, rule #1 = DONT BACK OFF

i saw this at powercruise, i cant say im a fan of the swift front bumper thingo but the rest of the car looks pretty neat.

your engine will go bang in no time unless you decompress it. i have had a lot of turbo 4ag's and all the GE+t ones all died eventually. its likely going to be more cost efficient for you to get a supercharged halfcut.

a little while ago i had an altercation with a grand vitara that set back plans a bit anyway some updates this is where she is at now

Couple more updates, got a new headlight cover so have fitted that, sprayed headlight covers black to match bonnet ( mostly because new one i got was white and close enough black is better than close enough blue) sprayed the spoiler black too so it actually matches the bootlid now, destickered the bonnet wet sanded the bootlid and bonnet again and repolished so they are kind of shiny again, I ordered a distributor seal repair kit, and speed-source shifter cable and shifter base bushings from the us, they all came this week so fitted all the bushings still need to do the distributor seals but that can wait for now. The shifter bushings have improved the feel of shifts a huge amount although im still not completely happy with the throw distance so will be looking at getting a short shift kit soon can anyone recommend one for these?

anyways some photos of her now she is coming along nicely wont be too nuch longer and i will have a new front bumper and everything will be straight again

front bumper im getting

and bushings on shifter cables and shifter base basically replaced all the rubber ones with solid aluminium and brass bushes

and last one not really a mod but i finally got some speaker boxes so they 6x9s arent mounted in cardboard anymore, has improved it a lot at the sacrifice of legroom

Looks good!
....gloss black would look good too IMO

What happened with that rear wheel arch?....doesn't look quite even, or maybe the angle of the photo?

ultim8m

its probably a bit of both, because i was planning to do the gloss black over the top i didn't stress too much about getting the arches perfect as i was going to blend the gloss into the edges, they were bloody hard to mask there is no definite line to follow
