I have some amazing news that i discovered today on a undisclosed website. They claimed that the sr20det design was actually penciled by mack trucks inc in the mid 80's but was considered to weak and noisy for the ever increasing sales of small light duty trucks. A nissan engineer was given the plans by a mack employee as payoff for a gambling debt. Nissan changed the block to ali from the macks original design of iron to make it lighter but only actually decreasing the strenght and durability off the engine. To this day the SR20DET is considered a performance engine of the 90's, but who knew that the real reason all sr20 powered cars where called trucks is becuase really they engine should of had a bulldog on its rocker cover instead of the prestigious nissan emblem. So this leaves you with the thought really is the SR20 and different to a modern 5.7 ltr chev both old design truck engines stuck into modern chassis.
Food for thought
