I serviced an unmarked auto astra diesel today complete with the same red and blues as the unmarked VEs on the dash and rear window. Dunno if it was a traffic car or not but it can certainly ping you if it wants to hahaha.

What about getting the cops to use all of those confiscated HOON and unlicensed driver vehicles as operational police vehicles? A few of those vehicles are pretty fast and would do nicely. They are just going to waste sitting in a holding compound anyway. That would allow the cops to get rid of a lot more of their leased vehicles.

Great idea, lets give all the cops unregistered EA Falcons and VN Commodores, and a Postie bike :D

before everyone gets all excitipants and goes for freeway runs, they're probably not going to unload all their xr6t's right now. this just means they can't buy them anymore. the ones they've got at the moment should be staying in service until it's time to move them along (ie, run into the ground)

It's hard to imagine why there are so many XR6Ts in the fleet anyway. The first WRX the WA Police took delivery of ended more pursuits in 1 week than the XR range did in 3 months.

Keep the XR6Ts for highway work and long stretches of road and fill the suburbs with a combination of WRX and Astras. Fuck off the dedicated traffic enforcement wankers and sell 2 of the booze buses that are constantly sitting in the fenced off areas around town. There shouldn't be a specialist unit to handle traffic infringements, it should be a small percentage of daily duty work to catch people speeding.

If anyone is going to keep an eye out for ex Police fleet cars, my advice would be to avoid the black ones. :p

Yeah they certainly don't make them like they used to. I'm pretty sure the cost of repairing cars, paying medical bills, and replacement tyres has reduced significantly since 79 were disbanded.

The patch that would make the most hardened criminal shit a brick.

At the time, WA Police executive director Greg Italiano said the force had requested an exemption from Treasury from the fleet cuts but had been told it would have to reduce its 1400 vehicles by 10 per cent.

I'm pretty sure 10% of 1400 is 140 too ... not 50 ?

Im in the police vehicle service management and some of the repair jobs that come across my desk leave you thinking WTF how did they do that. To add to fourseven's comment of staying away from black service vehicles id also add to that list the group of cars they do driver training in up at barbagello, they burn through at least 4 sets of pads and two sets of rotors per car every track day they do.

79 Division (also known as D squad, or Delta, and when the Police cars were marked with a single letter in their call sign the cars were D XX) was formed in 1979 and are known today as the Major Incident Group (MIG). Their role is to provide rapid response to major incidents or incidents in progress - pursuits, homicides, armed robbery, sexual assault etc

Each 'unit' operates in pairs with a detective and a uniformed officer and traditionally both officers are very experienced in the job. MIG operate 24/7 and generally if they attend an incident and apprehend someone they can either follow through with the case until prosecution or hand it off for others to deal with and get onto other incidents. During the 80's and 90's Division 79 were rough as fuck. I know of a few war stories where they would force themselves into houses to arrest people who were known to use shotguns for armed robbery and as a joke would leave their service weapons in the car. Crazy, insane, tough pingpingpingpings. They just don't make coppers like that anymore.

The MIG today usually head up pursuits, damage a fuck load of black XR6Ts, hand out the occasional beating (read: they deal with mainly violent offenders) and generally do shit that most 'average' coppers would think twice about. They don't really deal with the general public or petty crime, they only handle the tough stuff.

Ahhhhhh that explains ALOT. Would explain to me why usually in the wee hours, you see a group of Black XR's parked at a Servo, Macca's, Alfred's, etc.

I'd be VERY surprised if that was MIG. Their cars occasionally get used in other areas, and MIG certainly don't bother with traffic shit unless it's a pursuit.
