View Full Version : Bizzarre radio interference/jamming problem

Got a strange problem with what I'm guessing is some sort of radio interfence at my parents house. For some reason any car that is parked on the driveway and in the vincinity of their house and on the street, their key remotes don't work at all, so you can't lock unlock your car remotely. I've tried it on a Forrester, a Falcon, Aurion, and my IS250. I also have trouble starting the IS250 (it doesn't have a key, just a radio transmitter and a starter button). Strangely enough when I come within the proximity of my car, the remote acknowledges with a flash, however still can't lock/unlock/start the car in the usual manner. All those cars' remotes work anywhere else, but near the house, so it's not a battery thing.
It's only been like that for the last week or two. I've switched off all power to the house, thinking there may be something emitting a signal, but it didn't improve the situation (perhaps it's the neighbours, who knows!)
I don't know of any ghosts in the area haha, there's gotta be some sort of logical explanation for that. Has anyone encountered something like that before? Know what it may be, how to fix it? Cheers!

Ahhhh a question i can answer being an EMC engineer....
Broadband noise is your problem...
near train lines???
Transmitter Tower?
Try tripping the house power and try again... if its not that one of your neighbours will be to blame.. suggest you call ACMA

Nah, they live SOR (Huntingdale), and all power lines are underground, it's a reasonably new area. Neatrest train line is 5 kays away. Not aware of any transmitter towers, might have to look into that, but doubt it as it works fine about 50 metres away from the house. I've switched off their power in the meter box completely however doesn't help, might have to ask the neighbours to switch theirs off and see. Maybe some pingoingpingping set up some powerful communication equipment in their house in the last couple of weeks or something. Might have to look into this ACMA thing. Thanks!

Have had this happen to me before at the local Video EZY. Took me ages before the car would unlock.

are there any CB antennas mounted on houses around your house?
I used to have my old AM/SSB CB set up with a 20ft antenna and a power mic... it used to knock out tv & cordless phone reception in a 500m radius around the house.

I'm gonna check next time I pay them a visit, probably tomorrow. There are a few vehicles on the street with CB radios in them.

Yeah, but i was 15y/o and a right little pingpingpingping that used to hold the mic trigger on with tape when the neighbours used to piss me off by telling my old man to tell me to turn my guitar amp down when i was practising.

Well, spoken to some neighbours, if they had any new active transmission equipment in their house. All negative. Few hours later, all back to normal lol! Obviously some pingpingpingping wasn't being honest...
