Hey guys, cheers in advance for any info
decided that doing a N/A to turbo conversion on my 3SGE with bout 170,000km on it would cause more issues than its worth due to unreliability issues and the fact that i dont know enough to maintain an aged turbocharged engine, so im thinkin that i might as well save up and drop in a all-trac 3SGTE from halfcut for bout $3000 not including labour.
i know that a gearbox conversion would be nescessary as well, would the all-trac transmission do the job or is the 4WD factor gonna come into the equation? if it does, is the MR2 transmission the only choice?
also, how bout the cooling fans? will they need to be modified to fit in a intercooler and junk?
is this gonna be a massive effort or fairly simple? i plan to hook up a new beast (GT4, fuck yeh) in bout a year or so, but even then i plan to hold onto the GT3 for a bit of fun on the track and road, is it worth converting or should i just keep it at bout 100kw and do the standard N/A mods and juicing as much power from that 3SGE N/A as i can?
cheers,
Jim
My mate used to have a celica just like yours with a 3sgte conversion front wheel drive and it went hard, number plates [NO GT4]. He posts on antilag too, his nick is GTR90. I know he went through a lot of fucking around to get it finished. Talk to Tony at Tony Flood Motorsport on 9472 1800, cos he helped a little with the conversion. He will tell u everything that is involved. Dont bother modding your N/A engine . Just save your money till u can afford a turbo engine or an allready turbo car. I might be selling some stuff from my car so let me know if u want anything after talking to Tony. He usually looks after my car. Hes the best with GT4's cos he used to race them in rally a while ago. everyone with a GT4 or MR2 goes to him. If u need any more help just PM me and well talk cos ive had my car for nearly 4 years and i have been through a bit with this car so yeh. not many people here would know much about 3sgte cos most of them have nissans n shit. go to ozcelica.com and a lot of people can help u there and answer all of your questions.

Danilo

Be warned, Floody can be a bit cranky :)

.... not everyone.

Maybe your not asking the right people. Ive been making specialist perf parts and doing work on 3S's now for quite some time, difference is i mostly export because of people here not liking to pay for time or methods i make my parts in. This is where Tony seems to not do, not that i talk to him, but ive had quite a few customers in the past who went there, to not get the mod they wanted.
Im not advertising myself, but im just saying that there are quite clever people outside the square.

Hi Jim,
1. You can retain and use your existing fwd SX celica gearbox (you cannot use the awd box with a fwd car).
2. The existing cooling fans fit fine in the factory position as the water/air fmic sits quite a distance infront.
3. Massive effort or fairly simple? Well this comes down to how much mechanical experience you have, or who you choose to do the conversion with.
Another point to note is that there are power advantages using the 3SGTE in the SX celica such as minimal power loss (doesn't have to travel through awd drivetrain) and the power to weight ratio (awd drivetrain adds approx 140kgs?).
Hope this helps you.
I'll leave you with a few pics of my old SX Silly car which had a ST185 GRP A donk with a high flowed CT26 and a few other goodies... Good luck! :)

cheers guys for the help, top blokes, btw that celica is nice as, i like your style
done some research spoken to a few dirty mechanics, for now im planning on jus keepin the beast n/a, however gonna do a port polish, chip, new cams, other shit, mainly internal work to squeeze as much power and reliablility out of her whilst i wait for either a 87 GT4, a 180 by the end of this year or a Gen5 GT4 (Danillo styyyyles) if i go to japan. however, i plan to hold onto the silly car for little projects and mainly shits and giggles so i may do the conversion in a couple of years, thinking about doing a pre-app in mech engineering and hopefully do it myself after the apprentiship when theres some knowledge stashed under my belt,
cheers guys
