but bechtel cant find any mechanical fitters
I dont have much of a hope in getting mech fitting work anyway - I did my apprenticeship at Rio Tinto, but then went straight into the drawing office - so I have little post trade work history (I did the mech fitout on John Rothwells 30m cruiser for 6 months and some other small stuff)
So, I dont have any real on the job work history - especially not in O+G unfortunately.
cheers

I feel your pain brah
I am having the exact same issues RE getting mech fitting work, and I spent 10 years in the workshop before I went into a drawing office. Seems that trade papers arent worth shit these days unless you have spent at least part of the last couple of years hanging off a dozer somewhere in a fkn desert.
yeah, its strange - its like some employers don't trust themselves to 'look outside the box'.
I understand the risk they take on a new employee, but years of experience in a very similar field should count for something - that & the fact a person trying to gain experience in a new field might be much more keen & dedicated compared to someone who knows they can find work very easily somewhere else.
good luck!
will look at anything related to my field of mining or even oil + gas.
will even offer to work for free for up to 6 months to gain more experience.
cheers
just done my BHP confined space, working at heights & will be doing some more RIO specific courses this week.
keen to get back to work!
getting some spasmodic shutdown work but real keen for regular work.
theres a car for sale i want & its a bit hard to justify in the current situation - get the violins out..
