I don't understand how they can catch you for speeding if they don't have a picture/radar speed of the specific time you were speeding. I understand how the average speed works and it can proove you were averaging something higher then the speed limit allowed on that road but its far too vague.

Fuck these pingpingpingpings anyway, time to move somewere less retarded.

Do they seriously not have anything better to do?
"Don't bother chasing criminals, let's go after the these 'maniacs' who exceed some arbitrary speed limit in conditions where it is safe to do so."

I have never witnessed a crash which was caused by speeding. They are always caused by people who don't know how to merge, give way or fricken DRIVE!!!

point to point on major country roads ffs

so I travel for hours at the posted 110kmh limit pass a couple of trucks along the way (speed up to 120-140kmh depending on the length of the truck for a few 30 seconds at a time) and potentially get done for speeding? sweet.

[FFOUR]
02-10-2009, 02:50 PM
Very rare that I sit on the freeway for 30km straight so not too fussed TBH.

Just bring a calculator with you so you can work out how long you need to pull over in the emergency lane for to get your average back down to 100kmh. :D

Ryan1080
02-10-2009, 02:55 PM
Hmmm, are they gonna be clearly marked and fixed? If so, easy! Just go 100 like a snail for the 30 kays and back to your old self after you pass the second camera, easy! At least no surprises there!

Fark me they forecast to make 540 mill out of that 30mill injection in the first financial year. It has always been about the money. They should be forced to put every last dollar back into road safety. Maybe then the gov wont be such money grubbing pricks.
ATM its Multinova>Govenment coffers>Feed a little back to the popo>Multinova

Whereas it should be Multinova>Road saftey>Multinova>Road saftey
Maybe then they will fix up such road hazzards like the GFF orrong bottleneck, traffic lights all along Leach, Tonkin, Read, should be abolished at all main roads. Three years of camera income could fix up just about all of the major Bad intersections/Blackspots in perth. Maybe then with traffic not having to be agro about waiting for 3 sets of lights just to cross an intersection or being angry about being cut off at a merge maybe people will stress less and stop running into each other.

Lonewolf

also ones through traffic lights, forget about speeding up slightly to ensure a safe exit out of an intersection, just coast through and get t-boned!

LOL @ Butcher - mate, in their minds, multinovas ARE road safety! They save lives remember? :D

I went a little further on the maths angle. 27 current cameras replaced by these new ones that catch bikes too @ $170,000 each = $4,590,000. Double that = $9,180,000. That's not $30 million they're spending on multinovas to get the bulk of that $540 million return - that's a scratch over $9 million. If it wasn't for the fact that they're scum of the earth, it'd be the industry to work in! I can't think of anything else where such a small "investment" (and believe me, that's what it is to these wankers) returns such a large amount over such a short time.

I still think a switchable cover is a better idea, and if you get done by a multi then so be it.

Ryan1080

I still think a switchable cover is a better idea, and if you get done by a multi then so be it.

I hope they are fixed and marked. Would be a good idea to pull over before passing the first one, cover your plates with a bit of cloth or something. Go past. Pull over remove. And keep going. Then do the same when you approach the second camera. Might take you 30 seconds or so each time. For 30-50 km stretches of road it may be worthwhile if you want to go 10-20 kays over...

S133LTR
02-10-2009, 03:46 PM
Pretty sure alberts still sell those neltronics covers which changes the numbers (like the old kids rulers with moving pics on em) at an angle. They are under $100 each they work very well.

Lonewolf

i wonder if there is any tolerance built into them, surely there must be.
you get what 1-2 km/hr tolerance on a speed camera.
at 100km/hr over 30km, equals how much?

Wouldn't they have the same tolerance? If you do 102km/h for 30km, your average speed is still going to be 102km/h...

Mad_Aussie

I'm not too concerned. Every time you go for a drive, just pull over for 5 minutes, then you can speed all you want and you should be under the average time.

I wonder if they will still put a multinova within the point to point area to catch people that arent traveling the full point to point distance. I recall a while ago a bloke over east was caught by multiple fixed speed cameras on the same rd. The court found that he could not be charged multiple times for one offence.

If you can find someone who retails electrochromic plexiglass let me know!

I think the major problem is, it's see through with voltage applied .... we want it the other way around.

With the GATSO's in the UK, some anarchist group last year destroyed a lot (70-100 odd) by throwing a tyre over them, pouring petrol in the bottom of the tyre and lighting it up.

Also.... doesn't pulling over for 5 minutes to "get back within the average" kind of defeat the purpose of speeding? You might as well stick to the speed limit if you're going to do that....

I would think some form of etcher would work better if you want to go that route..... but it would only be temporary until they replace the glass.

Think about it this way also .... 30km distance.... at varying speeds.

30km @ 100kph = 18 minutes
30km @ 110kph = 16.36 minutes
30km @ 115kph = 15.65 minutes
30km @ 120kph = 15 minutes
30km @ 125kph = 14.4 minutes
30km @ 130kph = 13.85 minutes

So really..... you're better off doing the speed limit then trying to fool the cameras?

Fixed cameras are great.

means you can have top speed runs, from over pass to over pass, stop at the over pass, then drive on after 10 minutes or so!
Would make sense for there to be no road side speed cameras on over passes with point to point speed cameras right?

.....

lol

Well wouldnt you just have voltage applied constantly with a switch in the circuit to break voltage when you want to got blank spec.

Not really, they profit 100-fold out of it, therefore a little bit of damage here and there is only going to dent their revenue a little bit, not taxpayer's funds. I say thrash it as much as you can :D

Speeding isnt necessarily about saving time though

Also, with rear-facing Multanovas, if you have a half-decent radar detector it will still give you enough warning as the signal bounces off objects and cars in front and back to you. Its no different to when your detector goes off when approaching a camera pointing at oncoming traffic on the other side of the road
