if i turn the car off and put back to igintion will make about 4 or 5 taps then be silent, but once flick her all the way over again to start it up back comes up the sound

Is the a/c fan on or off? Like the fan in the car that blows thru the vents..

And can you pinpoint which part of dash its coming from...

Your stereo is not loud enough - try turning it up.

Best solution to non-detrimental noises.

You forgot to take your Thai rent-a-bride out of the boot.

fan all off

sounds like its coming from between the dash and dvd player.

sounds like someone is knocking the plastic from the inside lol.

Could it be the aerial trying to go up? They make a horrible knocking sound when there fucked and can sound like its coming from that general direction.

aerial works fine

sounds like its coming from the pedal area/where your left knee sits but behind the dash on closer inspection, starts tapping as soon i fire it up.

its the heater box trying to drive, makes about 10 click noises when you first start the car then its fine.

Maybe stupid question but you don't have leaves and crap caught up inside your vents do you?

my 33 was the same, they strip some teeth of one of the cogs that opens/shuts the heater flap i believe...

I'm gonna go with leaves and crap...
next time you hear the noise Jesse, just crank the fan on full for a while till the noise goes away. Most likely its sucked some crud in from outside

leaves in a fan does not make a 'knocking/tapping' sound imo

and a faulty part doesnt often fix itself as in this case..

I guess its a bit hard to diagnose without everyone seeing the car and hearing for themselves..

just because its stopped doing it for now doesnt mean its fixed itself - gears with stipped teeth can still work to a point
a bit of experience in the exact issues & a grasp of the english language lets mechanics properly diagnose issues all the time, providing the person with the problem gives a good descroption, as he has in this case.
