Have you tried EGT? http://www.egt.net.au/
You're going to find it hard at the moment. Have you considered doing electrical engineering at uni? We're already looking down the barrel of a huge shortage of electrical engineers with majors in instrumentation and control, industrial computer systems, electrical power systems etc. in the next few years.
Given the current level of planned projects in the state and the number of graduating electrical students, they are going to be massively in demand and big companies such as Woodside, TiWest, Apache etc. already know this and have begun to poach students while still at uni. In four years when you come out you'll pretty much have a license to print money.
I have a degree in industrial electronics and in instrumentation and control systems. From someone that's a little older than you and has been through where you're at now, believe me when I say that the real money is in being an engineer. You work half as hard and get paid twice as much as a general sparky in the mining and oil & gas industries.

fuck EGT right off, useless bunch of fucks.
dont bother with a pre-apprenticeship, waste of ur time. try and go direct, just keep hounding companies each week wanting work experience, if ur decent enough they will take you on.
try ZEUGMA, i jus started with them after my company went kunt up, they dont seem too bad. 94728800. but yeah jus ask for some work experience.

i agree with the statement regarding EGT, although the next paragraphs are wrong.
Try swan tafe and enrol in a Cert one,
he is looking for an Apprenticeship not a T.A pos.
with no pre-ap or cert one course thats all he will get.
No company at this point of time will take someone on without any prior "basic training".

Don't forget there's always the choice of repeating Year 12 if you are keen on doing Electrical Engineering at Uni, but I hear you can do it at TAFE now also? There's a couple guys that I go to Uni with that never did Year 12 TEE, they're doing fine.

I'm doing Mech. Eng at Curtin.
The guys that didn't do Year 12 TEE either did a bridging course at TAFE or they completely redid Year 12 doing TEE at Canning College (just across the road from Curtin).

You can sit a STAT test, or something along those lines apparently these days to get into a few Uni courses. Couple of people I know have done it with success and they say it's pretty hard to fail unless your a complete dropkick. Try having a look into that if it's where you want to go with your career.

a 1 semester Pre App which is now a CERT 2, takes 1 year off your total tafe time.. Something I think employers are really going to look for.

Try cockburn electrical the work isnt the greatest but i started a similar kind of company and it worked out ok for me. Even offer to start out as a TA for a month or something or work experience.
I disagree with the pre apprenticeship bit - I think they are worth doing it makes the apprenticeship easier plus a bit of prior knowledge goes a long way. You can also look into getting structured cabling and telecomms stuff with that kind of experience your more attractive as an electrical apprentice.
Zeugma are located in burswood on teddington road they do technical data, fibre optics, office fit outs and other commercial installations along those lines. They also do industrial and mining which is the department i work in.

cheers for all the help,
sent out alot of resumes but most of the companies are saying we are only looking for people with pre apprenticeship courses under the belt or just not replying at all,
i will try cockburn electrical and see what they say but doubt anything positive, looking like tafe is the way to go then hopefully after the 6 months at tafe work would have picked up and there will be more apprenticeships avaliable...

True, but going to TAFE will only give you up to an advanced diploma in electrotechnology and takes 2.5 years to complete. You won't be a certified engineer.

Again, true, but it will let you get into courses such as an arts degree... which are a joke.
fuck EGT right off, useless bunch of fucks.
I'm inclined to agree with you but given the current employment market you have to try everywhere you can. I've heard a lot of bad things about EGT but on the flip side, if you manage to get put into a good business and you work hard and do well, it can work out pretty well for you. I have a couple of mates that got lucky with their placings with EGT and they're doing really well for themselves.
Even if EGT is a painful and shitty experience, it is still experience and it will look good on a resume when you want to fuck them off and get a job somewhere else.

A mate is doing his apprenticeship with EGT and he got me his EGT supervisor to give me a call,
According to him they arnt really tacking on to many apprentices and as a result only recruiting apprentices with some sort of qualification behind them.
He suggested doing an apprenticeship with the army i rang them up and they have apprenticeships up for grabs at the moment,
Does anyone no anything about these sort of apprenticeships,
how they compare to normal "civilian" apprenticeship as they called it ??
If yes please share...
Cheers
