Need patrol engine hookup [Archive]

Mates 2001 Patrol motor has destroyed itself, apparently common as fuck with these, not worth rebuilding.
Model of engine is ZD30DDTI
Anyone know best place to buy a second hand one, Im aware of the usual import places, but prefer an answer based on genuine knowledge.

Not that common, ZD30s are a decent engine albeit underpowered and generally the only time they shit it is when they arent serviced properly. We rebuilt a couple (sludged) at Nissan when I was there so may be worth looking into? Buying second hand you may get another that wasnt serviced well and could shit it again.

According to a bit of research pre 03 versions are pretty known for failure.
He wants to sell it anyway, so basically wants a running engine in there and gone.
This one sounds like its smashing metal apart and wont rev once it does start after 5 mins of cranking, blows bulk smoke and tries leaving the engine bay.

i have a one in my patrol, what was a new nissan crate engine 30,000kms ago.

might sell it if the deals right.

The pre-03 Patrol zd30's were common as bat shit to fail, the post 03 and navara zd30's have revised piston and head design that stops the common problems.

Engine Exchange Bayswater? 9272 5611. i'm pretty sure the've done a few Patrols, not sure on exact models though.
