Most likely secondhand mate, although doing my reading/researching, and it is looking like a pair of turntables and a mixer + serato would be my best bet, as my vinyl collection is non existent, and playing tracks off a laptop seens easier then burning a shit ton to CDs.

Although still trying to suss out how serato works, excuse the stupid question, but if I bought those technics turntables, and a decent pioneer mixer, all i then do is buy serato, and then interface everything through a laptop?

correct. serato comes with everything that connects your decks to your laptop. Dont forget you will need some speakers as well.

I might be selling my turntables in a couple months time to get cd players. If your still interested ill probably sell both of them for $700 they are stanton st150's

What are peoples thoughts on CDJ 400/350s?

There are heaps on Gumtree, and seems to be a cheaper way into it, and can also use them with serato.

Dont bother with 800's-1000s till you are SURE you really enjoy doing it cause it can get costly.

how does one go about getting gigs at clubs? just hand out demos? or is it more of a "who you know" thing?

Defs a who you know thing unfortunately but what I can suggest that's probably the better thing to do is try get down to the clubs you want to play at and get friendly with the promoters. Introduce yourself, tell them what you do and just have a casual chat. Go down a few times and then offer to play an hour free. Don't tell them you're good or give them a demo straight up because they get that all the time and nothing good cones put of it.
The more times you go down and get to know the team the better your chances will be at possibly getting a set.
I'm not saying you're gonna get one straight away because they're gonna look after their people first but it's defs the best approach.

Another thing is to try enter as many dj comps as possible. It's another good way to prove yourself and meet heaps of people

1.00 - 1.30 seems a bit "disjointed" to me. Especially when the bit randomly comes in at 1.15. Like it is all chilled then comes in hard for a couple of seconds then disappears. Once the beat comes back at 1.30 tho it is nice.

I know nothing about musical formatting, I am just giving you my thoughts.

Thank you for posting this link! I originally recorded this back when it was first broadcast. Suprised people here knew of it! I recorded the set in medium quality and only around 3-4 hours of it due to HDD size. It started off as just messing about with FL studio but nothing ever came of it. Ever since I lost my job at BHP I decided to put more effort into producing.
